I second this. The original series/films are hard to watch if you're not already a Gundam fan. The animation isn't great, the voice acting could be better, and the overall storytelling is very 1970s. Nostalgia is mainly why it remains popular.

I'd also avoid G Gundam because it's wildly different than anything else. It was a return to the super robot genre and was meant to subvert tropes found in other series. If you're interested in it, come back to G Gundam after you've watched other Gundam stuff.

Gundam Seed is a 2003 anime and it shows. Avoid this one, too.

My personal favorites are 08th MS Team, Gundam Wing (although I probably have too much Toonami nostalgia for this one), GQuuuux, and The Witch from Mercury. A lot of the stuff for the original timeline is top-tier, just not the original series lol (though Hathaway was made by people who missed the plot).
