The Occupation of Alcatraz was a 19-month long protest which began on this day in 1969, when 89 Native Americans and their supporters occupied and reclaimed Alcatraz Island as indigenous land.
The protest was led by Richard Oakes and Grace Thorpe. The group chose the name Indians of All Tribes (IOAT) for themselves and lived on the island together until the protest was forcibly ended by the U.S. government.
IOAT claimed that, under the Treaty of Fort Laramie between the U.S. and the Lakota tribe, all retired, abandoned, or out-of-use federal land was returned to the Indians who once occupied it.
By late May of 1971, the government had cut off all electrical power and all telephone service to the island. Left without power, fresh water, and in the face of diminishing public support and sympathy, the number of occupiers began to dwindle. On June 11th, 1971, a large force of federal officers removed the remaining 15 people from the island.

I think I was just harassed by a cop in a really weird way??
I was driving home and this black charger was tail gating me really hard, I thought he wanted to pass me but I got over in the right lane and he never did, then when we hit a part of the highway where the speed drops he was still matching speeds with me in the left lane despite me trying to let him pass
At one point i thought I heard a siren but there were no lights and I turned off my music and listened and didn't hear anything. Then the guy was like matching speeds directly in my blind spot on the left side
I saw a car turning out into the right lane in front of me, so I sped up to get clearly in front of him so I could pass it, and after I do I hear sirens again, for longer this time, but no lights and no indication i'm being pulled over
I slow down and he drives up beside me and I glance over and he HOLDS UP HIS COP BADGE AT ME and I'm just like ??? Am i being pulled over??? what is this. And he just keeps driving and then soon after takes a left turn to make a U Turn
Like what the fuck was that, did he not like how fast I was driving but not enough to ticket me over it?? I don't think I got out of it for
reasons since I think he was black but idk
I guess I'm glad he didn't ticket me but it still comes off as weird power trippy shit.
Even though nothing bad happened i was still so frazzled i forgot to stop at a gas station for a marijuana drink :c

maybe? I don't know? like why harass me when he could just ticket me for speeding, why not flash his lights instead of a half second siren the first time and then like, two seconds the second time? and why follow me like 5 miles only to U turn after waving his badge at me
