The big city christmas markets are always too crowded for me. I went to the one on Mt. Pilatus this year. Pretty small, but the scenery and views can't be beat!

The medieval christmas market in Siegburg (between Cologne and Bonn in Germany, with great train connection to either city) is awesome! Nice vibes, nice acts, great food. Only poor dads have to hand crank the roundabout.

Personally, I found the one in Quebec City to be incredible —as long as you visit the week before tourists arrive. Ice floes in the river, a bonafide castle, and maple syrup in snow molds? Hell yes.
