Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

Europe has no countries, only collectives of consumers. I find it laughable that after decades of pursuing the atomization and destruction of society (of which the UK's Margaret Thatcher was a pioneer of) any one of these authority figures would even entertain the thought of mobilizing the population to fight on their behalf. If they ever get the war they want it will manifest through drones and nuclear bombs, because those are the only things they can use reliably and will never question their authority.

Atomization and destruction of society actually made the population much more vulnerable to conscription. They can just snatch people off the street and absolutely nobody will be able to do anything against.

With that comes a sharp economic decline, desertion, and migration.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

And where will Europeans migrate? To the US?

[–] CitizensTyrant@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

Well, the sharp economic decline is already in full swing so....when do we desert?

We all are seeing how well this wonderful tactic is working for Ukraine.

Ukraine managed to mobilize a massive army and keeps it functional. Of course, it comes at a price of inevitable demographic and economic collapse, but it will be the problem for some other government.

Eh. Desertion rates have skyrocketed, and the entire Ukrainian army + conscripts + weapons from all the imperial west can't even properly defend themselves against Russia alone using mostly volunteers without forceful conscription. EU won't have war on its own soil because nobody wants to invade Europe, good luck sending western conscripts to fight to other countries.

Regardless: isn't the economic collapse of Europe something to cheer for? I say this as a European.

The war is going for 4 years already, almost like WWI. The level of mobilization is still much lower than in WWI, but it is anyway an impressive achievement.

TBH, I think that the economic collapse in Europe will just bring open fascism. Left-wing parties are either weak and disorganized or shameless sellouts, while fascists are on the rise.

That's how it's always been, there's no example of a socialist revolution in any industrialized country. There will undoubtedly first be fascism in Europe, socialism may come later.
