#Welcome to /c/socialism

Socialism as a political system is defined by democratic and social control of the means of production by the workers for the good of the community rather than capitalist profit, based fundamentally on the abolition of private property relations.

Socialism is also a sociopolitical movement dedicated to the critique and dismantling of exploitative structures, including economic, gendered, ethnic oppression.

Socialism, as a movement, confronts these different systems of oppression as mutually conditioning, intersectional, and/or dialectically related within the current hegemonic order. It seeks to overcome oppression in a holistic manner without neglecting any particular axis so that it might be eliminated and genuine social emancipation may be realized. We recognize that Socialism cannot be achieved while structural oppression continues and workers are divided.

I mean this is why we have voting on the server and allow discussion. It's pretty clear from this thread what the majority view on grad is.

Seems like the opinion is pretty heavily split, that’s nowhere near a “majority opinion” despite what you might tell yourself.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

There's literally you and two other people restating the same reactionary points while the rest of the server is trying to educate you.

A loud contingent isn’t “the majority”, you literally highlighted voting, not replies. There’s also a whole lot more than 2 people if you’re not going to be facetious.

Maybe people just don’t enjoy getting dogpiled by the AI-bro division? Wonder if that might play a part in anything.

It’s not reactionary to be hostile towards a fascist slop machine.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's absolutely reactionary to use Nietzschean talking points about art being reserved for some high minded artisans and being kept away from the hoi polloi that you've been called out on in this very thread. The reality is that none of you managed to make anything that even resembles a materialist analysis, and you're utterly unable to engage with people explaining to you the glaring problems in your argument. You just lash out as you're doing here.

Calling LLMs a fascist slop machine is the very height of reaction.

Lmaooo, discussion with you is impossible, because why bother engaging when you can just lie about what the other person said, right?

Where did I say that art is reserved for some high artisan class? It’s reserved for the masses, for everyone, that’s the entire point behind everyone being able to do it. A fascist slop machine is not art creation, it is relegating ones ability to connect with their fellow worker to a machine built by fascists and capitalists that seeks to establish a totemic cultural hegemony.

Imagine worshiping a capitalist machine.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh the entire point is that everyone is able to do it, but you get to be the arbiter of how it's done and what constitutes as art. Evidently you don't even think about what you write here. And you're not even being original here. Here's another story about a 'slop machine' that's completely indistinguishable from your arguments https://daily.jstor.org/when-photography-was-not-art

Also, weird how this notion of LLMs being a machine built by fascists and capitalists that seeks to establish a totemic cultural hegemony is only present in western reactionary circles. We can just look at how people living in a socialist society feel about the whole thing. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2025/11/19/trust-in-ai-far-higher-in-china-than-west-poll-shows

Turns out China is just choke full of fascists!

Not the photography argument 😭 lmaooooo

Also that says trust in AI, not love of GenAI. AI is going to be very useful in making medical discoveries, helping calculate large datasets, and easing communication breakdown in planned economies, and so on. Not when it comes to making slop “””art”””

I trust AI will be a useful technology; but even in a socialist economy GenAI is still garbage with negative societal worth

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 months ago

Yes, the photography argument that clearly lays out the absurdity of the whole thing. The moral panic you're pursuing is not new, and if you actually bothered to engage in dialectical thinking you'd be able to apply the lessons from photography to the current moment.

Oh right, AI is going to be useful in all these many areas, just not the one you arbitrarily singled out for no discernible reason. This is precisely the point that many people here have already pointed out to you. What you're doing is claiming that art is some magical feature that is a product of the human soul that cannot be replicated be material means. It's idealism at its finest.
