Well done with the migration !

Thank you. ๐Ÿ’š
More than anything I just wanted to do right by our users. Everything went smoothly but there were plenty of high stress testing sessions that I'm happy to be done with.

Who did you move to?

Hetzner, on dedicated hardware.

When KNT announced they were going out of business I was determined to turn it into something positive for our community. There were a few options for migration to other managed hosts, but that came with no guarantees of a smooth transition or the type of experience our users are accustomed to. Instead of crossing my fingers with another managed host, I turned my focus to finding a dedicated server. After a marathon of testing and learning over a couple months, I found a server and a host that I believe can be our "forever" home.

Now we control our own destiny. That's opened up all sorts of new opportunities for us that simply weren't possible with KNT. Some of that can already be seen, like the additional frontends we're able to offer now that couldn't be done within the KNT infrastructure.

We also have plenty of headroom to continue to grow and evolve.

PieFed is something that I spent a fair bit of time testing as a replacement for Lemmy if our members were interested because I wasn't sure where we were going to land at that point. Obviously we've opted to continue as a Lemmy instance, but now we have the hardware to run them both, or anything else we want, whenever the time is right.

The future looks very bright.
