Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in unrelated arguments.

Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting or manipulating the post in any way, this includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be permanently banned.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

MODERATORS

LMAO! Coward little admin banned me from communities I’ve never even posted in, because I called his shit out when he tried to poke his fart-sniffer into a comment thread- now get this…. in a community on an instance he doesn’t even have authority over.

Additionally…. I don’t even see shit from .ml because I have that entire instance blocked. lol!

What a fucking joke! I’d say a bullet was dodged, but I’d never even have known it was fired to begin with had I not checked the mod log.

Words cannot express how embarrassing it must to be to walk around as this mouth-breather.

I notice you're on world, and I want to mention that World explicitly does support the Lemmy.ML admins including financially.

When I complained about the recent banner on World which is asking for donations which go directly to ML and pay the salaries the known pro-war, pro-genocide, and Transphobic Dessalines and Nutomic, the Lemmy.World Support moderator had this to say:

"So they’ve provided you a solution to your problem, but you don’t want to use it to solve your problem, and you’re mad at them because you’re still using the thing you don’t want to use.

Got it."

The fediverse does not need Lemmy, including Lemmy.ML, Hexbear, and Lemmy.World, those instances are a sickness that the fediverse will survive.

Spread the word and consider moving over to a PieFed instance.

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 2 points 3 hours ago

I made the switch!

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The banner went up on all Lemmy instances. Not just world.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And it went up last year, too, but when I asked them what they were doing to prevent or remove it, if it just somehow flew under their radar, the World team responded by thanking those horrible people for creating a solution to our problem.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And I was right there with you criticizing it as well. Maybe I missed it. But I didn't see any announcement from them about it this year or any show of support. Just an automated software trigger for the banner on all Lemmy instances.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You did, actually. I quoted it in the comment you replied to, and I included a link to it. You saw it.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

No, I legitimately hadn't. And upon going back and looking, it's not what you claim it to be. But you are more than welcome to continue pyrrhicly downvoting. I'm sure that will convince someone you're right.

I’m seriously thinking about it. Do you know if the Voyager app allows piefied?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I’m on voyager.

It’s not perfect yet the modlogs don’t show up.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I got signed into the same one you use. However this sub shows completely empty when I use it. No posts.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

I can’t login to my new account. Says connection error in voyager.

[–] FlihpFlorp@piefed.zip 4 points 2 days ago

I’m using voyager rn on my piefed.zip account

I swing between the piefed website and voyager a lot and a while ago when lemm.ee shut down there would be these periods where I couldn’t connect in voyager, but just fine in the website

I haven’t gotten it to do that recently but yeah it’s been an issue when .ee shut down but gotten better since

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Which piefed server are you using?

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Okay, so… weird.

I cannot see any posts in this community, but I searched my other account and found the comments I made there and then was able to see this one post.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

I’m on piefed.world but maybe you’re the first person to visit this community from Piefed.social?

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yep! All looks good! Check you out being my first comment!

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I feel like I’ve brushed greatness or came in contact with someone famous.

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

All right, I’ll try making an account there. I’d rather things just work. 😀

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And you created the account in a browser then used the credentials to sign in in voyager?

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah. It won’t let me.

[–] TheFrirish@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I’m using piefed on Voyager right this second.

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 4 points 2 days ago

Just signed up!

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Also, I only see your comment in my inbox. It does not show up in the thread.

[–] TheFrirish@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There could be some federation issues between lemmy and piefed. Thanks for letting me know I might have been hidden away from other comment sections then

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think it is just that instance. This one seems fine.

[–] TheFrirish@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Feels good to be where the shitheels aren’t supported to keep on…. shitheeling?

Yeah it does. I delayed switching for way too long.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

No issues. I’m still waiting. The confirmation email. It’s not coming through so I can’t create an account.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They’re not sending the confirm email for account creation.

[–] TheFrirish@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I signed up to my instance on my browser then I logged in via Voyager. At least that’s how it worked for me.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah. Your comments don’t show up in the thread. Only inbox.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

To be clear the solution I was referring to was Piefed.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

"So they’ve provided you a solution to your problem, but you don’t want to use it to solve your problem, and you’re mad at them because you’re still using the thing you don’t want to use.

Got it."

Tell them you drive a VW but don't support Hitler.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What is the difference with PieFed and how is the app ecosystem?

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even when I'm on the phone I always use the browser so idk about the apps, the Piefed API is 95% similar to Lemmy.

Piefed is written in Flask which is similar to Django that I think but I'm not certain Lemmy is built on. The practical difference is the Piefed developers aren't the Lemmy developers, so you can use Piefed without inadvertently supporting horrible people.

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Lemmy is written in Rust.

[–] Skiluros@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Piefed has a lot of nice features for both casual users (e.g. multi-community comments, threadiverse link redirection, better mute/blocking tools) and regular posters/mods (scheduled posts, flairs, tags).

I use a mix of their mobile WebUI (which is generally good, but does need some polish if you post a lot) and Voyager. Mainline features work well on Voyager, but they haven't implemented many Piefed specific features.
