THE POLICE PROBLEM
The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.
99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.
When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.
When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."
When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.
Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.
The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.
All this is a path to a police state.
In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.
Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.
That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

What I see is a protester who is focused on following someone who is being violently tackled. He doesn’t appear to be acting in a threatening way.
The trained professional who is geared up for war, and is clearly not fearing for his safety, goes straight for a point blank shot to the face.
This is not justification of your “perfectly legal policy to put you down”.
Their goal is to bait people into giving them an excuse. What they did before should matter but it doesn’t. They provoke you into crossing their line and start shooting. When has any military force in the history of the world followed rules? Don’t get it twisted this is one of the most well funded forces in the world, stacked with shoot first ask questions latter lunatics. Expecting them to follow rules is losing game. DO NOT ENGAGE! It’s what they want. Hold your ground, be loud, be a nuisance, all of it matters. They won’t bat an eye before murdering a crowd if the order comes through. Protect yourselves by being smart about it.
The intended usage of a rubber bullet launcher is to shoot it into the ground in front of the target. It's rubber so that it will bounce upward, knocking out their legs.
Targeting a person with direct fire is assault with a deadly weapon and should be prosecuted as such.
This case it's a pepper ball which is to be shot at the chest of someone further away or on the ground if nearby. I wouldn't be surprised that shitbag froze the balls before hand.
They aren’t police… and they charged the line first. From what I read, if the less-lethal round had gone just 7mm deeper he would have bled out while ‘throws-his-helmet-guy’ was faffing about.
This might be the worst take I have ever seen on this site.
Cop alert
Tell us what was the benefit of being permanently blinded?
If protests are ineffective then choose a different option.
This doesn't actually show the whole video where they drag him with his hood which starts strangling him. It's textbook excessive force.
I understand that and I said I didn’t know what lead up to that in my deleted comment. I was commenting on the guy that got shot in the face and why there will be no legal recourse for him in my opinion.
How was he in any way a threat to 4 officers? He's about a foot shorter than all of them.
He was armed or something, who knows, boot lickers and apologists are going to do what they do.
What do you call them pulling the first person who was just talking over a bullhorn exactly? Unless he said he would, in an incrementing way, kill someone like them or an elected official they're just destroying his first amendment rights.
I explained I don’t know what lead up to that. (it’s not in the video but was most likely the enforcement being fascist d bags but I was only commenting on what’s in the video) The guy that got shot in the face ran up on the the guys with guns, I assume a knee jerk reaction to save his friend (understandable), once he did that he engaged physically with them (which is what they want) which gave them the excuse to use (in their rule book) non lethal tactics to control the situation. There is 2 ways to fight this war and actually make lasting change. 1) Be the stronger force because unfortunately in the world we live in currently “might makes right” and good luck with that without major coordination or 2) out smart them with educated planned tactics and win in the courts like we had to do with segregation. But 2 will never happen without being able to hear constructive criticism.
Why did the Babbit (sp?) family get a $5mil payout then from 1/6?
Ha ha my comment was removed. I was just commenting what I saw. I guess I’m a fascist piece of shit for having a very specific opinion on a very specific situation. All while trying to improve the safety of protesters. Better censor a non combative opinion from the public. While all these others get to project their opinions about me. Great job shutting down discourse and promoting angry mob yelling based on emotions. He lost vision in one eye and you learned nothing from it.
I checked the modlog, you're such a fuckin' clown. Take the L and move along.
Please enlighten me.
Good talk, very helpful to the discussion. Read it again from the mindset of not wanting people to get hurt for no reason. Such a fuckin clown, ok.
You're giving police apologia for excessive force. There's no reason to cause SKULL FRACTURES and BLIND SOMEONE IN ONE EYE for this. If you don't see that, you're doing police apologia.
