I wonder how he still got 40% approval rating.
"My grandpa voted republican and I will too! It doesn't matter who, if they're republican, they've got my vote. Can't have the blacks moving close to me, ya know? Might steal my chickens" - them, probably. Lots of low-effort voters voting republican cause that's what folks 'round here do, ya know?
When I still tried to reason with my father, he would exclaim that he cannot break from the views of his father. This happened whenever answering one of my questions would trap him in acknowledging reality. He acted like it was disrespectful of his parents. He always doubles down upon feeling cognitive dissonance. It hurts my heart.
Morons vote for morons
I can tell you my experience from working with them. The common traits:
They've never left their bubble of people that look and think like them. Even the ones with college educations only socialized with people like themselves while in schools. They never leave their comfort zone.
They're emotionally and socially immature. Those aspects of their personality stopped developing in their teens. They still act like teenage bullies and mean girls.
Their "news" consists entirely right wing propaganda. Social media, FOX "news", etc. They're addicted to outrage and they lack critical thinking skills.
I have an uncle that's a Trump supporter in rural Minnesota. As of a couple days ago, he had no idea that anything special was going on with ICE in Minneapolis. He's completely checked out, but forever loyal to Trump because Democrats "kill babies".
