As an American, I'm not just embarrassed, I'm pissed. This is so fucking stupid and the fact that there are still people who like this guy is just disgusting

He really is the president that america deserves.

remind everyone that usa is much closer to russia in being right wing than any other western country, even before trump. usa has always been right wing politically, thats why we had people schumer and jefferies, and all the DINOS, and thats why foreign conservatives(SOuth africa, canada, australia, the flavors of cuban, venezuelans, Vietnamese people) migrate to the USA

What an absolute embarrassing time to be an American. I apologize to the world on behalf of America for this fucking lunatic.

[–] GeriatricGambino@lemmy.world 65 points 6 days ago (28 children)

I appreciate that you mean well, but apologies on behalf of America are just empty, worthless words. I know I have no use for it and can't imagine who would.

I have nothing against you personally, and the fact that you're not a Republican ghoul is already a lot to ask in today's Trump's America, but the rest of the world is well past caring about Americans futilely commenting about their sense of shame on the Internet.

All those children aren't going to rape themselves. You can't expect him to learn geography AS WELL as rape his own daughter.

I'm an American and I'm kinda tired of hearing my countrymen apologize and say they are embarrassed. Were over a year into this and waaaay past the time to say that kinda shit. We shouldn't be embarrassed, we should feel ashamed and angry. And we shouldn't apologize, we should be actively finding ways to make a change no matter how small.

I know there are plenty of other Americans that probably lurk on communities like this so I'm mostly saying this to them. And the only reason I'm saying this is because about half the time I see other Americans apologize and say how embarassed they are it often seems like it's a way to say "see? I'm one of the good ones." None of us are the "good ones" anymore unless you are actively putting in the work. It doesn't matter if you didn't vote for him because he's still the president. People have died, continue to die, and will die in the future because of this man and he's doing all of it in our name. If Trump actually causes a global conflict with his bullshit we will not be blameless when the dust settles and our country will have to pay for this regardless of who you voted for.

It’s unbelievable difficult when they have you at the throats financially. I don’t think you fully understand this until you in the middle of it. Being the primary provider for my daughter, I have basically two options. One is to work on a way out so she can have a better life (current plan) OR to risk that she will be an orphan by actively going against the government as everyone outside of US expects. If you have your own children, take a minute to really think if you okay with your child becoming an orphan or homeless, because that’s the reality here. Even posting this risks my employment, as freedom of speech is long gone. This is just my opinion, and does not reflect the opinion of my employer.

The fact that a letter like this made it out at all says a lot about the current situation. Zero fucking adults in the room.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 21 points 5 days ago (10 children)

What annoys me is that this was sent as a text. Publishing it on headed notepaper is hilarious but also misleading.

As an American, embarrassed doesn't even begin to describe it --especially since I voted against all of this.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

I wonder if this is the first Presidential letter with the word "anyway" used in this context.

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It's absolutely stunning that this is an official letter written by any government official, let alone a country's president. It reads worse than a 12-year-old's homework.

Not to mention completely false information included in the letter. What '8 PLUS' wars have you stopped? What do you mean there are no documents? The USA has literally signed an agreement with Denmark to waive all their claims to Greenland. And why are you blaming Norway's prime minister for you not getting a Nobel peace prize?

I could understand him declaring all this in a public speech. That's essentially what American politicians do for a living. However, stating such insane claims in a more-or-less private letter seems to suggest that he actually believes any of it. Which I guess is a possibility in the context of a senile, mentally deranged child predator...?

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

According to The Bulwark, it was reported that this was actually a text Trump sent to the PM (?, I don't know, someone in Norway's government), and then the Norwegian government formatted it into a letter for release to the public.

It's a safe bet that no one else in the US government saw this "official communication" before it went out. I'd go so far as to wager he was alone on the toilet when he sent it.

Capitalism enters its end stage.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Murder isn't working and it's all we're good at!

[–] callyral@pawb.social 51 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Is that fucking for real?

Holy shit I just looked it up. It's an actual letter sent by the US president. Below is a GIF (tenor.com) expressing how I feel about this:

Mr. Boss from Smiling Friends: "We are so fucked."

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 26 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The fact that none of his staff stopped him from sending such a petty child letter is just as bad as him writing this.

Mr. Peace President: "I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace"

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 31 points 6 days ago

"Give me the Peace Prize or Greenland gets it" is Trumpism to it's core.

I'm American born and raised and here's the truth: whether by incompetence or malice, the United States' politicians handed over governance duties to corporations and, for my entire life, have made choices in direct opposition to its stated values.

My government is not your friend, or friend to me or anyone I have ever met. Since at least Reagan, and indisputably since """Citizens United""" it is a vessel for the primarily the military industrial complex.

The world would be in a better place if the US held to its espoused values of democracy and liberty, but although I've known many citizens who take these to heart in their daily lives, and are honorable and loving people, and imagine themselves members of the global community, in practice our government stands on these principles only so far as they are profitable for the military industrial complex, and for billionaires.

They have stripped hollow our education system and trampled consumer protection at every turn. They have at multiple times operated illegal concentration camps, and served as inspiration to the nazis themselves. They have waged death for oil and resources, in our name. When we stand against them, they imprison and kill us.

The world is deeply ill-served by a globally influential United States until massive systemic change occurs. They must give us ranked choice voting. Curb the supreme court. Enshrine systemic balance in policy, not gentlemen's agreements. Until then, ice us the fuck out and save yourselves from our lunatic leadership.

This reads like an angry drunk text

Girl, your make-up is running. You need to pick yourself up off the sidewalk and catch a cab, ok? He doesn't love you. He loves Denmark.

[–] teolan@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Do you have the source for this image? All the reliable sources I find say it's a text exchange.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

Someone put it on letterhead that's not even real, I think to imagine how it'd look as an historical document rather than a text exchange. It's an interesting visualization but now historical records ARE by text, so there's really no visualization that's appropriate, unless you slapped it on an iMessage template.

[–] yumtoasty@lemmy.ca 25 points 5 days ago (6 children)

I wonder how he still got 40% approval rating.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I think your president copied a kid's Christmas letter to Santa, replaced wish list with Nobel prize and Greenland

I didn't think anyone could make Kim Jong Il (or Kim Jong Un) seem comparatively rational and genius in a single note.

You'd think someone on his staff could pass that through microslop and make it at least sound presidential.

I got a bit depressed when after reading it the only thing that seems weird is the capitalization of some words. Why "8 Wars PLUS"? Why "Total Control"? And why the PLUS? does it mean at least 8, maybe more? Isn't he sure how many wars he ended? Is it an acronym?

It's truly terrifying somebody with the reasoning skills and restrain of a toddler has access to nuclear weapons, but even worse that so many people still support him.
