Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Jesus will return the day after this happens.

Cynicism sucks. It convinces people that it’s not worth trying. Including the person spreading it.

It’s always worth trying.

That opinion prevents us from achieving goals as much as any. Pretending we can do things we are in no position to do means we don't honestly size up the problem, and change the situation to do those things.

You can't fix a problem if you won't even define it accurately.

The person I replied to was effectively saying those people will never face justice. I am saying that if enough people say that out loud, it’s actually causing it to be true.

I realize that yet the good news people that demand we not be honest so they can continue to try and help are utilized by those hostile to changing anything for the better. It's a function of not having any leadership, of fighting under controlled opposition, and being divided and perverted at every turn I'm afraid. Nothing for it until we get organized and some real leadership.

But we can at least try, as you say. Like I know I am not going to get a winnable slate of popular reformists in 2028, that the republicans will win, especially with their cheating, and by then the fix will be put in beyond recovery. It may be too late already. Or 2024, when an unpopular sell out was anointed with 4 plus months to go without challenge, whose approval never breached 30% all term, and ran as status quo under a president at 40% approval for 3 years, that accomplished zero real reform, (unless you count shoveling money to donors as reform, which it's not,) didn't try to reform. But I tried anyway to get winnable candidates, tried to get Newsom or Pritzker to stand up and take the top job. They both decided to wait their turn, and now they can't win, and we need a new candidate, if they were leaders they would've taken the job.

Zero challenges for any leadership, house and senate have undisputed leaders despite both parties in congress ranking about as popular as syphillis. Something is broken in the democratic party, the donors have made sure we are saddled with weak candidates that won't revoke the license granted continually to the rich to take more from everyone else.

All of that to say, the good news people are tooled to prevent acknowledgement of the democratic leadership being unable to win elections, and unwilling to do anything with it if they do. Even in the face of a fascist kakistocracy openly planning on killing the republic in all but name, preventing such the first duty of a political party. Yet acknowledging the situation is "pessimistic," and blamed for their candidates losing, as if we didn't already know what the electorate is and what they will vote for generally.

We are tooled every which way, because we are not organized, and they are. Numerous other groups are organized, and they make sure we aren't, are at each other's throats, and to kill any popular reform in the cradle. Even now, at the dawn of an unthinkable fate. Popular reform is the enemy to those we fight under, dooming us to the fake popular reform of the Right seeking to fix elections permanently, in a very violent genocidey sort of way at that. You know it's bad, but it's worse than that.

It's defined accurately. We didn't vote, we got what we deserved.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Speak for yourself, and stop assuming things about other people to make them look like assholes to avoid acknowledging the issue at hand.

It's unanswerable, so you have to obscure with libel I get it. Your influencers taught you how to do it. You trust they know what they are doing, despite, you know, things.

I did vote, because I'm not a fucking moron. If you did vote, it sure seems like you spent more time convincing others not to. Also, YEAH, I can speak for others, I'm merely recounting what they expressed.

It’s unanswerable

No it's not. The answer is 10 million less voted. That's the answer. We won in 2020 because that group of people voted. Somehow these idiots forgot who Trump was.

It's everyone else's fault for not believing hard enough. Sure pretending democrats are good hasn't worked for three elections in a row, and they only win as a rejection of the other party, and are running as status quo against a republican party running as reform. Sure we know voters don't know better and or won't support an ever degenerating democratic party because the other guy is worse, while the whole system is crashing around us.

We all see everything failing, lying about it doesn't win elections, recognizing it and promising to do something about it does. And "winning" with these democrats changes nothing, it puts off a faster degeneration a few years, things still get worse, nothing is fixed.

You really don't have a leg to stand on, and are helping the republicans win more than the maga diehards, yelling down everyone trying to get winning candidates, and candidates that will address the causes of America's decline, not just throw money at the fallout from the problems.

You should reexamine whom you trust. You follow the lead of the people that brought us the last three elections, and that shitshow Biden ran? You knew everyone else wasn't content with it even if you were. But didn't feel they needed a new strategy?

You were fucked the moment kamala got the nomination, and I'm not going to go on the defensive for bad faith slanders meant to distract from the issue. You force candidates that can't win, won't meet the moment. We need real leadership, someone to build and run a political machine, and instead we are given weak corporate whores unwilling to fight for, or indeed allow, popular reform. Not in law, not in the party. Their, and by extension your, reason for being is preventing popular reform.

Meanwhile the electorate knows they are being screwed, if not by whom. I shouldn't have to explain this to you, and you are purposefully not acknowledging the issue, unanswered as of yet, despite several rounds of baseless accusations. As I said, how you are taught. To be the controlled opposition to the Republicans, so they can win.
