It's a trick question; the answer is 1, the person going to St. Ives. 2,801 are going the other way.

But if you're only counting the

Wouldn't that be zero?

Or is that just a distraction in the riddle?

It's just a reiteration of some of the elements of the riddle rather than a comprehensive list.
