For me it's literally any MK6 golf with the 2.5 5 cylinder. It's cheaper to buy a GTI with a fixed timing chain than it is to buy what is essentially a base model golf.
Liter yesterday I found a golf with the manual for $3.5k. It had a blown second gear. The listing underneath was a nicely sorted GTI with a fixed timing chain and a sagging headliner.
They used to be cheap and now that 5 cylinder is the new k24.
