Something about his explanation doesn't feel right to me. Like what was he taking, my guy over there doing rails of that Colombian bam bam for his mental health lol?
The only thing I can think of that fits with PG saying "mental health" and the league saying "violates anti-drug policy" is microdosing hallucinogens (eg, lcd, magic mushrooms). (I'm assuming here that the league doesn't care about or test players for marijuana.)
Maybe, mushrooms/LSD don't usually show up on standard employer drug test. Both can be tested for though, best theory I've heard so far.
You're probably right that testing for hallucinogens isn't part of a standard employer drug test, but there's nothing standard about pro sports drug testing. AFAIK, employer drug testing outside of pro sports is all about safety. But pro sports forbid performance-enhancing drugs. They also punish players suspected of not trying hard enough to win (e.g., load management, involvement with gambling). I hope we learn more to clarify this, although I respect PG's privacy. The league probably can't disclose this info, but he probably can if he chooses to
