Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

MODERATORS

Americans are exceptionally anxious about their political system, according to new international polling from Gallup, a situation that sets the country apart from other rich and powerful nations.

About one-third of Americans rated politics and government as the top issue facing their nation, behind only Taiwan — which faces the prospect of an invasion from China — and on par with Slovenia, Spain and South Korea.

The United States also stands out for the anxiety its younger residents have over economic issues, with younger Americans more likely than young adults in many of the other 107 surveyed countries to say affordability and other pocketbook issues are worrying them

Dude they're literally saying the last Democrat wins were rigged, Trump is talking about nationalizing elections, Bannon wants ICE surrounding the polls.....

What are you smoking? If you don't want to do anything right now, fine. But don't insult people's intelligence by pretending anything resembling a normal election is going to happen. Not as long as they are in power.

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Yet the democrats just won those elections anyway

You are literally smoking the doomerist propaganda

It’s not going to be normal but neither were the bomb threats in the last election so stop the hysteria it doesn’t help your own cause and it’s the exact reaction they’re hoping you have

[–] Denvil@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We should be fearful that this might happen, but it shouldn't be taken as a foregone conclusion. Something like that might happen, which only means we should be prepared for it

Going to happen. The president is calling for his party to take over and "nationalize" the voting system and bannon is planning to have ice surrounding polls.

[–] IzzyJ@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This. Exactly this. Honestly might drop Lemmy until December with all the doomerism here. My OCD can't take it

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What exactly do you find doomerist. Honestly trying to understand what is clouding the judgements of so many people.

Are you willing to tell me what you think is going to happen then? Or you haven't gone that far and "nuh uh" is all there is?

[–] IzzyJ@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think whatever they'll try won't work. They'll be too incompetent and meet too much resistance to pull it off

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

I mean they've already done so much damage without being stopped..... your assumption is suddenly they'll come across resistance that will stop them?

Actually?

Well I hope you're right but if I was betting on it, I'd bet everything you're wrong.

Here's my prediction, and you can make a mental note and see which way things go: MAGA will have to be stopped, as opposed to "resisted", and this will only be clear to you and like-minded people when November passes and you get one of two things: In inexplicable red wave (less likely) or a strong democrat showing that gets immediately nullified by MAGA crying foul.

For Christ sake they are saying, out loud, recent democrat wins were fraudulent and that they won't let it happen again. What the hell do you think would happen if they just let elections happen normally and there's a huge blue wave?

"Oh well, the people have spoken"

Give me a break, honestly. You're better off staying offline not only for your mental health, but also so that other people don't get lulled into the false sense of security you have.

Good luck, I honestly wish you well but to insinuate people are being alarmist is not cool. It is alarming. You should be alarmed.

Democrats are part of the problem. They did nothing to prevent fascism, they only furthered it. They serve the same elite pedophile ruling class. Come on, we need everyone together to realize this so we can stop them.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Just look at this thread. Looks like most people are still in complete denial.

They called climate activists doomers as well. Just wait until the next strong el nino for all the shocked pikachu faces coming out of the woodwork.

I fucking hate humanity, as a whole. But I suppose it's the way we're built, people are just reacting emotionally without using their brains.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

You're hopelessly naive, and this attitude is exactly why if fascism and capitalism don't kill most of us first, climate change will eventually
