Sidenote for opsec, be cautious about these amazon share links - they've switched to this model using their own link shortener, and it 100% certainly let's them track who shared and who clicked and connect those together.
I know it's the only link you can get out of the mobile app (which obviously already tracks you), but sharing the link with someone else does generate a unique connection for them.
I'd advocate for using a browser and getting the page url (and clipping off the tracking info at the end) whenever possible, especially if you are sharing them through any kind of sensitive or identity-obscured platform. Or obviously using a different vendor when feasible, but I don't think I have to tell anyone here that.
Yeah if I get a short URL from something like that I always put it right into FF first the grab the address from the address bar.
The url shortener (tracker) will have already done its job if you keep using Firefox for anything amazon after that.
I think he's talking about cases where he is sharing the link. Get link -> drop in Firefox -> get real link -> share that
Ah, I see. I figured this was from a share link button. Amazon usually likes to put its main tracking state in its URLs as you browse, so if I share an Amazon link I always strip it to it's bare product path portion.
Yeah, there is an extra you might need to take which is to remove all the other tracking BS out of the full URL they provide after the short URL. I have an extension in FF that cleans those URLs for me though.
Nice
Thanks, good advice
