I wish there was something that would make Republicans panic, but as their continued behavior indicates, they can't be shamed, and they have all the law and all the money, so why would they?
They don't have all the law and money, though. Their margins in both chambers of Congress are slim and only shrinking. They've lost nearly all of the recent elections, sometimes flipping a long-held seat (see the recent Ft. Worth election that flipped a seat held by Republicans for 30 years), and alignment with Trump is proving to be a detriment. People blame them for the economy, don't like their international policies, and even their supporters are beginning to sour on immigration. There's going to be a lot of retirements, because they can see the writing on the wall; the midterms aren't looking good.
Now, I'm not saying they don't still have a majority or power, but it's thinner and more tenuous than they would have us believe, and we're already seeing defections. It's no longer the case that just voting along party lines will keep them safe, even in deep red districts.
They're panicking, it just isn't much of a spectacle.
which is why there won't be another election as they know they'll lose… hoping to solve this democratically is naive at this point
What's naive is assuming they're just going to allow elections to happen, which I don't. It's not naive to fight against that effort and continue to hope for a nonviolent solution.
I get that everything sucks, but we are not yet at the point where nondemocratic solutions are the only options left (though the options are dwindling)
Agreed… kudos for understanding my poorly written post
