"cosmic horror... is a subgenre of horror fiction and weird fiction that emphasizes the horror of the unknowable and incomprehensible more than gore or other elements of shock... themes of cosmic dread, forbidden and dangerous knowledge, madness, non-human influences on humanity, religion and superstition, fate and inevitability, and the risks associated with scientific discoveries... the sense that ordinary life is a thin shell over a reality that is so alien and abstract in comparison that merely contemplating it would damage the sanity of the ordinary person, insignificance and powerlessness at the cosmic scale..."

Had a centipede in the shower last night, brain went to, its a fuckingpoisiness entity from the depths of the earth, kill in before it touches you.
Clowns and snakes are two things that never even remotely tingled my horror vibes.
Centipedes (and scorpions) on the other hand, irrational cosmic horror.
Years ago, I moved to a new part of the world I'd never lived in before. Shortly after getting settled in, I saw my first (completely harmless and highly beneficial) house centipede. I freaked. That asshole animal literally LEPT off the wall aimed straight after my jugular vein. I flicked it to the floor, removed my flip-flop and flung the footwear directly onto that critter. Smashed 90% of its legs off, and the monstrosity still slithered right at me without skipping a beat. What the fuck are they made of? What the fuck is their motivation?
To collect your legs. To collect everyone's legs!
You need to stop this. In the back of my mind a little voice whispered "what if they really are after your legs?"
