"cosmic horror... is a subgenre of horror fiction and weird fiction that emphasizes the horror of the unknowable and incomprehensible more than gore or other elements of shock... themes of cosmic dread, forbidden and dangerous knowledge, madness, non-human influences on humanity, religion and superstition, fate and inevitability, and the risks associated with scientific discoveries... the sense that ordinary life is a thin shell over a reality that is so alien and abstract in comparison that merely contemplating it would damage the sanity of the ordinary person, insignificance and powerlessness at the cosmic scale..."

Cosmic Beings in Steven Universe Universe.

The image features the four Diamond Authority leaders from Steven Universe: White Diamond in the center, flanked by Yellow Diamond on the left, Blue Diamond on the right, and Pink Diamond (as a child) in front. They stand in a grand, geometric space, each bathed in their signature colors of white, yellow, blue, and pink.

Portraying the strongest force in the universe: OSHA.

Turtles are pretty good. Strong shells and feets for marching.

Praise Dog!

(Elden Ring meme)

“Try finger dog!”

How I desperately wish Elden Ring let us use the word “pet,” so I could have wrote that in front of Miriel.

She's a cosmic turtle. So probably a marine turtle is more appropriate.

Still a beauty.

Had a centipede in the shower last night, brain went to, its a fuckingpoisiness entity from the depths of the earth, kill in before it touches you.

Clowns and snakes are two things that never even remotely tingled my horror vibes.

Centipedes (and scorpions) on the other hand, irrational cosmic horror.

Years ago, I moved to a new part of the world I'd never lived in before. Shortly after getting settled in, I saw my first (completely harmless and highly beneficial) house centipede. I freaked. That asshole animal literally LEPT off the wall aimed straight after my jugular vein. I flicked it to the floor, removed my flip-flop and flung the footwear directly onto that critter. Smashed 90% of its legs off, and the monstrosity still slithered right at me without skipping a beat. What the fuck are they made of? What the fuck is their motivation?

To collect your legs. To collect everyone's legs!

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

You need to stop this. In the back of my mind a little voice whispered "what if they really are after your legs?"

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

could toss korrok from john dies at the end in there too

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And the koala from Star Trek tops them all.

Why is he smiling?! What does he know?!?!

What's the turtle referencing?

[–] mysteriousquote@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Probably Maturin, which shows up in IT and The Dark tower series

See the turtle of enormous girth On his shell he holds the earth His thought is slow but always kind He holds us all within his mind On his back all vows are made He sees the truth but mayn't aid He loves the land and loves the sea And even loves a child like me.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 2 points 22 hours ago

See the turtle, ain't it keen?

All things serve the fuckin' beam.

[–] ekZepp@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

You're confusing her with the World Turtle A'Tuin from the Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.

Maturin in the King fiction is a lovely cosmic turtle who puked the universe into existence (which in itself explain a lot of things).

How am I confusing the turtle in the Stephen King section and the same turtle from Stephen King that you linked to?

Did you think you were replying to the OP?

[–] ekZepp@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

On his shell he holds the earth

That's A’Tuin
