Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Not a soulslike, but my fiancée and I have picked up Resident Evil Village and are having fun with that. Well, at least she is, watching me. :D Got a PS5 copy that's been acting up for some reason: constant crashing of the game make it near unplayable. Like 10-15 crashes per play session unplayable. Downloaded the game on PC and rushed up until where we got on PS5 - might play some later. Other than that, Slay the Spire 2 has me in its iron grip.

You could completely change the lore of any game if you come up with a super absurd "what if". But thinking of scenarios that would make sense in the lore of their respective game, what would you think of?

What if the ancient Pthumerian catacombs and the Old Blood were never discovered? Would it still have found their way to Yharnam by means of cosmic intervention?

What if P understood the King of Puppet and his message to P and acted accordingly? Leaving this somewhat vague since I know some of you are playing the game right now, and I don't know if you've followed all the bits of lore there are.

What if Sekiro had teamed up with Genichiro to fight against the common enemy, possibly succumbing to the corrupting powers of the Divine Heir's bloodline?

I’ll be playing the Lies of P DLC. I’m having lots of fun :)

They really stepped up their game when it came to designing the environments. Also they probably spent a good deal of time going to natural history museums and botanical gardens on the companies credit card.

I just beat the Overseer and did the crocodile side quest. Now on to the Ruins (?).

What if Metyr never came to the Lands Between?

Would the Elden Ring/Elden Beast still have come to the Lands Between?
Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers and Elden Stars descriptions suggests that Metyr came first. But nothing suggests that the Elden Ring still wouldn’t have come. Also unclear is when Metyr actually started influencing things. Did she already influence things when Placidusax was supposedly Elden Lord? She did definitely influence things when Marika ascended to godhood and then became the vessel for the Elden Ring. Would Marika have been such a genocidal tyrant without Metyrs influence? Would she have been even worse? Or would she not have been a god at all? Would there have been a different Order than the Golden Order? Or would there have been no Order at all, the Greater Will entirely absent from the Lands Between?

Would Marika have been such a genocidal tyant without Metyr's influence?

Given that Marika was from a people who were tortured and genocided themselves by the people of the Shadow Realm and her entire ascension was to get revenge, I would only say that Metyr's influence would have had to have also been exerted over the Shadow Realm denizens, which is what led them to their thing with creating "sages" (essentially sticking strong slaves in magic jars and hope they become god-like creatures), thus fueling her desire for revenge on anything that wasn't 100% human.
