Okay. So what does federation mean in the context of a videogame? Will I be able to craft an iron toothpick from my piefed account?
That would be a 3D engine thing not a social media thing
But depending on both of the instances with different software (a game and a forum platform, in this case PieFed if they both support OAuth (the stack that lets the users sign in on one platform with an account on the other)) you can sign in with that PieFed account
