Grounding kids normalizes the prison industrial complex. Punishing kids teaches them to fear your judgment. Teach them that what they did is wrong in a positive, constructive way, by talking things out, and helping them to understand. Prison terms are not successful in preventing or deterring crime, so why would it work on a small scale?
Easier said than done sometimes and speaking as a parent we aren't all perfect and individuals (parents and children) vary.
