I wonder that too. And if it’s so close, why not sell it as a competitor instead of trying to pass it off? Legitimately curious.
Consumers are really weird about brand names. More people will buy a Samsung than a Galimu. That doesn't matter how well the Galimu tests.
If an ssd company wants more sales it's easy to just label it as the brand that will get you sales.
There is a theft, in a manner of speaking, of reputation in that, and taking that tack is a shortcut that relies upon the marketing and branding experience of the "legitimate" company. As someone who cares more about the utility of a good than the reputation thereof, however, and who bitterly opposes the effects of the West's "intellectual property" laws, that is not a theft that morally bothers me. A Louis Vuitton bag is exactly as utilitarian as a bag of the same pattern that simply says it is a Louis Vuitton, so to is an SSD that purports to be a Samsung.
I mean, I have always bought Samsung drives because of their solid drives and warranty. I've only had one fail and it was replaced for free, no problem. I have some out of warranty now and still running like new. If another brand builds up a good reputation, then I'd give it a go, but I'm not going to risk hassle over some random brand I've never heard of just to save 20%. It's not comparable to a bag.
