it's all the surrounding stuff that has made harry potter be more than just media consumption.

This. If it wasn't providing money and support to fascists, we wouldn't be having issues with people wanting to watch it, and maybe even actively encouraging queer readings of it (he was literally forced in the closet by his guardians after all).

Kind of similar to how I find the press about the new game ZA/UM releases to be more than just annoying, and how I would consider it to be some sort of moral failure to buy it if the buyer knows anything about what has happened.

Out of the loop, what exactly has happened?

Basically the people who made the game got ratfucked out of the studio and the IP by the people who financed part of the development. The financers took control of the studio and then hired a bunch of new people (From what I could read a lot of rich brits among them, the types that usually get to have some say in culture because their parents have money and connections, vapid saltburn types. Some I assume are good people) and are now releasing this new game that is talked about in OPs image.

They then tried to do PR management by sharing stories about how the lead on the game development was a bit of an asshole, while not really going into who he was an asshole to or why or giving time to the many other people also fucked out of the company who also were really pissed about how everything went down.

Some would say this is a biased retelling. I would say it is not biased enough

Thanks, that clears it up.
