Funny you mentioned 6 years, that's how long I was with a guy who never even added me as a contact into his phone. We lived together, slept together, were monogamous with each other, I helped him raise his daughter every other weekend during his custody time with her while he was at work. He still never added me as a contact into his phone.
I had a roommate who never made a single contact in her phone for anyone, she would just answer any call and figured out who was texting from past bits of the conversation and what they sent. And it wasn't a principled thing, she just didn't see the convenience in saving contact info. Blew my fucking mind
This comment made me feel old.
That is how everyone used to do it.
It's way more convenient now, I agree.
Did he still call you?
If so, I guess that just means you were important enough that he had your number memorized.
On modern phones once a call or text conversion begins, it remains. No need to memorize or anything, it's just there and context of past conversations will suffice as the way to know who it is.
(Edit: "Modern phones" good lord I'm a dinosaur. Sorry for the patronizing start.)
What about other people he knew? Was it just you or was it pure laziness. I did not do this, but it's an absolute struggle for me to add anyone new these days to the point that ill normally send that first text with the persons name in it so if they call i ignore it then cross reference the number after with my txt to see if its someone i know. You will never know the lengths some people will go to just because of laziness lol. If anything he probably knew your number by heart.
He didn't have my number memorized, he just used his phone log and click on that to call me back. Or click on our texting history. A few years before I met him, his super hot blonde wife left him for another man so he was a bit distraught & having trouble moving forward.
