There was a song from Pearl Jam called Jeremy that had this line:

Daddy didn't give affection, no
And the boy was something that mommy wouldn't wear
King Jeremy the wicked
Oh, ruled his world

What they meant is that the mother neglected him because she didn't want to be seen in public with him.
