Lots of good recommendations so far but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Revolutionary Blackout (RBN) yet. They're fun to listen to and well informed on current events, they post often, are full Marxist/"tankie" and they have no pretensions about decorum. I especially enjoy Rome's epic rants, but all of the hosts are good in their own way and they get excellent guests on like Ajamu Baraka. Sabby Sabs has her own channel and she posts new videos daily.
They put an emphasis on media literacy and debunking corporate media narratives. They've been good on the genocide on Palestine and the US funding Nazis in Ukraine. They might have whack views on COVID, not sure TBH because it doesn't come up that often. They're also good at contextualizing current events in terms of domestic black and brown issues, which is important because the online leftist video creator space is white af.
Just a couple paragraphs about these dudes because I'm not sure if Hexbear knows about them, generally.
EDIT: oops, fixed the link gore. Also, I forgot to mention that RBN emphasizes mutual aid and community organizing / building dual systems of power, and their revolutionary theory is based (on the Black Panthers)
I don't know much about RBN, but they've had patsocs Haz and Midwestern Marx on.
They've also had Danny Haiphong and Gerald Horne on, both of whom are mentioned in this thread, and those were excellent interviews. They've also had Norm Finkelstein and Carl Zha, and other good ones. Also, JT Chapman (Second Thought) went on Midwestern Marx and I wouldn't say Second Thought is contraindicated.
Haz is cringe, Midwestern Marx has one dude in particular who sucks and I think drags them down. But I wouldn't want people to get the wrong idea and skip over RBN because they've had problematic guests on. Their analysis of the news in light of US material conditions and foreign policy is spot on.
I wouldn’t say one person is dragging MWM down. Eddie is a lib (letting things go for the sake of friendship) frat boy who seems to be pushing electoralism with Cornel West. Some other dude wrote a book about the “plague” of “purity fetish” and how people discard the “positive aspects” of “American” history. There’s a third person who explicitly advocated patriotic socialism in an extremely thin “debunking” of Danny Haiphong. That’s just off the top of my head.
that's probably the one I'm thinking of. Pretty whack. If they're still Cornel Westing at this point, ranting about "woke," and talking about how the American revolution was a rebellion against colonialism then... Well, I just think it's disappointing because Eddie is (imo) a likeable personality as a host and if they had gone a different route they could have been good at helping to popularize/educate about Marxism instead of vulgarizing it.
I agree, I saw someone say that they said they’d get better after realizing that one of their associates was problematic, but they haven’t. Looking at their site and YT channel it mostly sounds good, except a few red flags. They have a recent video with Xiangyu who I’ve heard is an incel and I’ve seen using fascist dogwhistles. I also heard a podcast with him and the host was a TERF. There’s a video promoting Glenn Greenwald who used to try to seem left, but in the few years has gone full “populist” (fash) grifter, and was recently on Infowars. There’s a video with pictures of Black Marxists that says it’s about the importance of “American” Marxism. Du Bois literally moved to Ghana because he didn’t want to be associated with this country and these types want to associate him with it. Also, I just remembered how they had a video talking about how they loved that psyop “rich men north of Richmond” song that was complaining about welfare queens and liberal elites.
