a bill that would grant an abortion exception for rape or incest

... 1 year olds kids.
Nevermind the fact that 1y.o. aren't fertile, normal people go their entire lives without ever thinking about impregnating 1 year olds.
And yea, if you somehow magically got a 1 y.o. pregnant, I sure as fuck hope they'd be able abort.

I literally started screaming in my head (though, to be fair, most of my internal dialogue is just screams these days) , "WELL IF SOMEONE SOMEHOW GETS A ONE YEAR OLD PREGNANT, OBVIOUSLY THEY SHOULD HAVE AN ABORTION!" And then this guy's mom should have a really, really late post-term abortion. What the fuck is wrong with with conservatives?

What the fuck is wrong with conservatives?

We have large swaths of the American electorate who are just plain broken people. They've spent their entire lives being unjustifiably afraid of everything, from jack-booted liberal thugs busting down their doors to steal their bibles, to gay marriage somehow interfering with straight marriage.

Seriously, look at any list of political issues someone can believe something about, on any topic, and you can determine the modern Republican position on any of them by asking yourself two questions:

  • Is there a position on this issue that's driven by stupid, irrational fear?
  • Would incredibly basic, rudimentary education clear that fear away?

If the answer is "yes" to both, then chances are, you've identified the Republican position on that issue.

I'll never understand why they are more opposed to abortions for minors, who definitely didn't consent to sex and are more likely to be harmed by the pregnancy in so many ways.

So I do believe there is a significant and even growing misogynist/ child-bride/patriarchal-women-as-breeders-every-man-deserves-at-least-one element among Republican policy makers. But, I think the majority of Republican voters aren't looking at the specific intent of these bills and simply think it will never happen to their daughter because fill in the blank superiority complex, and that's what really pisses me off. Evidence of a well-fortified barrier to empathy.

Do I? They can't all be pedos, can they?

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

They wouldn't use that word, no.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

They don't believe there is such a thing as not consenting to sex if you're female.

Don't conservatives always complain about how liberals don't understand guns and therefore shouldn't regulate them?

They don't have principles, they have goals, and will say anything they expect to further those goals.
