It was called the Nintendo 64 because if you throw it at somebody it does 6d4 damage.

5e rules say most people are going to have 1d8 of health, and fireball does 8d6 damage, so I believe this. I've felt one hit me in the shoulder after falling off an old crt TV.

What possessed you to sit on an old CRT TV?

[-] Transporter_Room_3@startrek.website 10 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Well the tv was larger than I was, so it seemed like a good idea at the time!

[-] adj16@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

Oh, that’s clever

[-] hperrin@lemmy.world 50 points 6 months ago

I love that one of them is actually correct.

[-] Glimpythegoblin@lemm.ee 16 points 6 months ago

Yeah i didn't know they actually trapped the souls of the 64 original Nintendo employees in it.

[-] asexualchangeling@lemmy.ml 7 points 6 months ago

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 26 points 6 months ago

[-] scops@reddthat.com 7 points 6 months ago

For real tho, what species was that controller designed for? Ergonomics be damned.

[-] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago

It had 3 configurations for your two hands. 95% of games had you use the middle prong with your left hand and right prong for your right. A handful had you use the left and right prongs (D-pad movements) and one or two used the middle and left (twin stick shooter setup).

It was called Nintendo 64 because that's the maximum number of players that could be supported in a single game.

[-] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 6 months ago

Unfortunately no one was ever brave enough to push the console that far...

[-] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 6 months ago

[-] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 months ago

It's called the Nintendo 64 because that's how many grams of sugar is in a serving of mountain dew if you look at the number in a mirror.

[-] bruhduh@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

[-] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 6 months ago

Wii don't talk about the Wii.

[-] XEAL@lemm.ee 5 points 6 months ago

[-] 0ops@lemm.ee 3 points 6 months ago

It was called the Nintendo 64 because it's for ages 64 and up

[-] tiredofsametab@kbin.social 2 points 6 months ago

As someone who missed the 64, I can relate to the number of people required to hold the controller. I played one a few years ago and that controller was incredibly awkward.

[-] delitomatoes@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

It's called the Nintendo 64 because it sounds lucky in Japanese

[-] tiredofsametab@kbin.social 0 points 6 months ago

pedant: it does not. Although it would typically be read 'roku-jyuu-yon' (though some people here call it the 'roku-yon' instead), 'shi' is another possible reading of 4 which is associated with death.

[-] delitomatoes@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago
[-] tiredofsametab@kbin.social 1 points 6 months ago

No, I get the whole thing. I just wanted to save someone reading that and actually thinking it was true in Japanese or having to go search.

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 6 months ago

If you turn 360 degrees you are not walking away from whatever you just faced.
