What kind of comedy is that? If some party denies the government the ability to protect its national border, such party is committing a treason. Just roll the fuckers over with tanks.

It's not treason, it is however interfering with multiple Federal Officers in the execution of their duties.

What Are the Penalties for 18 U.S.C 111?

This statute outlines certain types of assault against a federal officer and the appropriate charges and penalties. Penalties for Defenses for Assaulting or Resisting a Federal Officer A simple assault of a federal officer carries a $100,000 fine and up to one year in prison.

For example, simple assault is forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing, **impeding, intimidating, or interfering with federal officers while performing their duties. As noted, physical contact or injury is not required for a conviction.**

Simple federal assault is a Class A misdemeanor that carries up to 1 year in jail and fines of up to $100,000.

Ooh, let's do that then! Enforce the law, and these individuals will stop endangering the lives of fellow human beings, and other species. smh.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 24 points 9 months ago

yeha im not sure why they were given a deadline instead of instructions for getting out of the way to prevent injury

[-] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 41 points 9 months ago

Leaned this a long time ago. This is the way the Feds do things. They write a demand letter with time deadline certain. The amount of time you have to respond indicates how angry they are with you. By the end of day is very very bad.

if they were unarmed black guys at a traffic stop they'd be dead already. why treat traitors with kid gloves? we need to stop letting fascists get away with it, it's the reason it's gotten so bad and the only way to stop them is to no longer tolerate fascism

[-] Aux@lemmy.world -4 points 9 months ago

Do you really think that Texas police is much different to unarmed black guys against US military?

[-] BigPotato@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

To be fair, most ROEs require you to receive fire before returning it, so the unarmed people would have to work harder to get shot by the Army.

Especially when there's likely a lot more black guys in the Army than the DPS.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago

Yes. What's your point?

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 45 points 9 months ago

hey texas, we already played this game and you lost hard.

stop trying so hard to be terrible people

[-] Fapper_McFapper@lemmy.world 42 points 9 months ago

Fuck around and find out Abbot. Pretty please?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 24 points 9 months ago

These days it's 'fuck around and we'll ask you really sternly not to fuck around again.' Just ask Ammon Bundy.

[-] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 7 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I mean, he is a fugitive from justice right now.

He got handled with kids gloves by the feds during the take over likely because of waco, only to have a jury acquit him later.

Since hes kept up the same shit though, hes now on the run.

[-] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 15 points 9 months ago

One thing is for sure, Abbot has to respond or something will happen. When the government writes a demand letter, a non-response is not acceptable

[-] reddig33@lemmy.world 14 points 9 months ago

Just start cutting any federal funding to the state.

[-] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Yep. Start by pulling all US military bases and equipment out of the state. There is a lot of money spent locally to support those bases. Then stop every federal dollar that they can from going to the state of Texas. Cancel contracts with businesses located in the state. They want to secede? Give them a taste.

[-] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

And don't send linemen in to fix the power infrastructure when the whole thing freezes again next month.

[-] Alto@kbin.social 22 points 9 months ago

Why the fuck haven't they been arrested yet.

[-] ComradePorkRoll@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

"We were just following orders."

[-] zbyte64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 9 months ago

I think Lincoln had the right idea, send in the troops and dare the other side to flinch. You telling me we can't airdrop amphibious vehicles to secure the river?

[-] MonsiuerPatEBrown@reddthat.com 9 points 9 months ago

Abbot is doing this to draw media attention from our President.

This is a total sideshow.

[-] squiblet@kbin.social 8 points 9 months ago

Also trying to fuck with Biden in an election year.

[-] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 6 points 9 months ago

Hoping this isn't a Fort Sumter moment.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

“Texas’s failure to provide access to the border persists even in instances of imminent danger to life and safety,” the letter from Department of Homeland Security General Counsel Jonathan Meyer reads.

The federal-state border standoff in Texas has prompted members of a kind of group known for using demonizing rhetoric and intersecting with extremists to issue a call on social media for people to travel to Eagle Pass in protest.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber is monitoring the potential arrival this weekend of people from around the country and is concerned for the safety and security of the area due to the heated rhetoric on immigration, he told CNN.

Groups like this one that use “patriot” as part of their names have emerged since 2020 in an effort to get Donald Trump to form a third major political party, the Anti-Defamation League told CNN in a statement.

The heads of every executive branch in the state must provide within 120 days a report to the governor’s office detailing any use “of public funds directly or indirectly, to or for the benefit of illegal aliens,” the order says.

The governor directs the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections and the Superintendent of the Louisiana State Police to provide monthly reports on the number of people “charged or convicted of a criminal offense” and to note whether they are documented or undocumented, according to the order.

The original article contains 1,127 words, the summary contains 214 words. Saved 81%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

[-] gregorum@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

The Department of Homeland Security warns it will – by the end of Wednesday – “refer the matter to the Department of Justice for appropriate action and consider all other options available to restore Border Patrol’s access to the border”

oooo! scary scary! i'm totally sure they're going to stop immediately and issue a full-throated apology!

/s

edit: texas is obviously going to ride this out until someone sends in the national guard and forces them to stop. i'm not advocating for texas

[-] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago

Some folks around here are (somewhat understandably) a bit sensitive about their government's inability/unwillingness to hold fascists accountable and take it out on the messengers

But, yeah, just to underscore your point - I'm virtually certain the DOJ is already suing Texas over this exact same thing, so I don't know what kind of further "appropriate action" they think they're threatening here

[-] squiblet@kbin.social 2 points 9 months ago

And surprise, Texas refused to change anything.
