Battlebit: Remastered.

Even when the game is occasionally “Spawn, Die, Revive, Die” it is surprisingly fun.

And the thing is, everyone playing it is surprised on how fun it is. The voice-chat often is full of “how is this game this fun!?!”

Large to small maps, varieties of weapons and gadgets, vehicles and destructible buildings.

I’ve been having a ton of fun playing it.

[-] PewDiePie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The game has so much going for it, like the building mechanic that seems very barebones compared to something like Ace of Spades is actually pretty well realised. Been using it to make stairs, stop/funnel enemy vehicles, build sniper spots etc.

Disco Elysium. this game has consumed my life

[-] catalyst@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Me too! First time playing it after hearing a lot of good things. The story and gameplay are interesting but what really hooked me is how the game can surprise me with wild and unexpected dialog choices. I love going for whatever feels like the goofiest possible decision just to see what happens next.

[-] KidDogDad@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I’m also playing Disco Elysium! It’s fun but so far has yet to completely grab me as it seems to have done for you.

GBA Advance Wars... I missed it first time round, so I'm playing it through on my Miyoo Mini Plus. Absolutely perfect handheld game, ideal to grab for a quick half hour mission.

[-] kite@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Sniper Elite 5. That series is like my sneaky sniper comfort food. I also just got a sonos arc soundbar and subwoofer and tried it out for the first time with the game. In the sonos app, they are now under the media group named, "Boom!Headshot". lol

Finished bioshock 2 days ago after having it on my backlog for years and years. Was really fun, some aspects do show their age, like the "horror" sequences, which are more funny than scary nowadays, but in general it holds up pretty well imo. It’s really interesting to see how a libertarian dystopia and ayn rand on crack could look like.

Playing bioshock 2 now, while it’s of course still fun, I’m a bit underwhelmed because it’s literally the same game but they made Adam more annoying to get by having to fight off waves of splicers. Looking forward to bioshock infinite.

[-] nevetsg@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I am the same situation as you but still playing through Bioshock1. I remembered hating it when I first played but after turning the difficulty down a notch I have been enjoying the story. The 3 games have been sitting in my epic game store since they gave them away a couple of years ago.

Horizon zero dawn. Really early in the game but I like the mechanics, gameplay, and atmosphere so far.

[-] theragu40@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Oh man, you're in for a treat. The opening is by far the weakest part of the game so if you're already enjoying it you're going to love it when it opens up. Scan everything you can and soak up bits of story as they are given to you. It's a very slow burn that delivers expert pacing in revealing itself to the player.

Stardew Valley Expanded. A simple life with a bit of magic.

I'd like a simple life with easy questions and obvious answers.

I'd also like socializing to be that easy.

I’ve been going through a nasty divorce, so my tastes have gotten weird with my emotions. And I’ve been using my laptop hooked to my new 4K tv as a console, and it’s been great for a 2019 thinkpad x1 carbon.

I started replaying Life is Strange because I craved some emotion. It’s one of my favorite games and I haven’t played it since 2017, so it feels fresh.

And then I picked up the two Lego Harry Potter games on steam because I craved something innocent and fun. It’s actually a lot better than I expected.

And I’ve been playing left for dead, the original. There is a surprising amount of people playing this, and I had no problems finding people to play with. But they probably think I’m an idiot because I’m always too stoned to be playing lol.

Hope you find some catharsis in LIS, some comfort in Lego and some camaraderie in L4D.

Ghost of Tsushima on PS5, loving it.

God of War 2 (PS2) and Lemmings (SNES). Lemmings is as great as ever, God of War is also great.

[-] Slarlath@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Strangely similar body counts by end of such wildly different games.

[-] rikudou@lemmings.world 3 points 1 year ago

Heh, never occurred to me.

[-] coolcrowe@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I was addicted to lemmings as a kid! I recently just saw a video for a new game called "Humanity" which looks like a modernized play on the same idea, with crowds of people instead of lemmings.

Been playing FF16. Really been enjoying it! It's really just a movie or TV series with sporadic combat. But I really enjoy storyline in games more than gameplay most times. I like that they added items to make the combat stupid easy for someone like me that has never been good at doing combo moves. I feel like it might be a bit too easy at times, but still fun. I swore to never buy another FF game after 13, but I'm glad they released a demo so I could see how fun the game would be.

[-] Slarlath@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I've also been playing FF16 recently and been loving it. I can't really explain what makes it so good because in many ways it just isn't a great game. But what it does well, it's doing really well. It's just so enjoyable to play.

[-] lechatron@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I kind of struggle with the constant cut scenes. There are times when the only gameplay is just walking to another room and then another 5min cut scene starts. There was even a point where the cut scene was so long my controller shut off. I often feel like they could have just released it as a TV series instead of a game.

The graphics are great, the fighting animations are awesome, and the times that I do manually control combat it's super fun. I do agree that it's not a great game (it might be better if I stopped being lazy and removed the "cheater" rings) but it is a lot of fun to play!

[-] Skellymax@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I talked about this with a friend. From what I've seen it's about the spectacle. It might not have Dark Souls levels of technical and mechanical design mastery, but hot damn, the sheer fucking spectacle of it all!

I think that's the genius of the game. It's not meant to be a space for player to hone or practice their action RPG combat skills. It's meant to blow their minds and make them feel powerful.

[-] polyfire@waveform.social 6 points 1 year ago

Yakuza 0 and the camera sucks.

[-] Kushan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Stick with it, the Yakuza games are all a little bit jank in their execution but the story and characters make up for it.

I played Plateup. I finally got my restaurant to day 15 and I'm starting to like this game more and more.

[-] Jaderick@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Haven’t played this game in about 6 months. I hope they made it easier to automate the cooking.

I recently got Techtonica, or if you prefer "Underground Satisfactory". One interesting difference is your research for new technologies creates a bulky waste product that you have to find room for...

[-] HorseWife@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I'm addicted to Dave the Diver at the moment, it's just so charming and fun!

Hunt Showdown. The audio cues, gunplay, and strategies you can come up with are second to none. I get destroyed 80% of the time, but that 20% keeps me coming back.

[-] Alfenhose@feddit.dk 3 points 1 year ago

I get you, I still return to it when I have the time.

There's nothing that quite compares to stalking an enemy group through the bushes for ten minutes trying to avoid getting noticed, while preparing to ambush.

[-] sasha@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Days gone, i like it alot.

[-] topazlad@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

Halls of Torment. It's insanely addicting and I must have put about 13 hours in the first two days. It's like if Diablo meets Binding of Isaac is the best way I can think of to describe it. Check it out if you haven't heard of it.

Just started Remnant 2, very excited to get deeper into the game!

[-] Weirdfish@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Hardcore mode subnatica, and I absolutely love it.

Don't normally enjoy survival games, but am a big fan of permadeath games.

The environment, the crafting system, the edge of your seat tension knowing one small mistake is going to kill you, makes it a very engaging game.

Tried the second one and really didn't enjoy it, but the original is a masterpiece.

Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access. I'm honestly enjoying it a lot. If there's one thing that really stands out to me, it's the sheer amount of choice the game gives you. I'm genuinely looking forward to the full release in slightly over a week.

Finished FF16 yesterday, so damn good

[-] Slarlath@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I am thoroughly enjoying it right now. Honestly one of the first Final Fantasy narratives I've been deeply invested in for a while. It somehow manages to be over the top but still feel grounded enough to connect with the characters.

[-] gk99@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Asphalt 9, I both love and hate it. It's super fun and reminiscent of some older arcade racers, but holy fuck the monetization is trash. You can tell it's a mobile game when I can't progress anymore because my car has a 4 hour timer on it before it can be used again and the alternatives are in loot boxes.

I just figured it'd be something interesting to grind for achievements so I don't mind that much but I can't imagine being a hardcore player of the game.

[-] terminhell@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Modded Skyrim AE - Mostly just some visual and animation mods with Odin and Vorkii, Serana Dialogue, and other qol stuff.

It's a game we've all played a million times, but the sheer number of mods makes every replay just different enough.

Also mixing in modded Sims 4 and Diablo 2 Remastered.

[-] sxan@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

Factorio.

Utterly, unhealthily obsessed, and no end in sight.

It's good for me because the focus is building, with some defensive combat on the side; I've tried Mindustry to try to get the same time sink on my phone, and I've learned that I don't like tower-defense style games; but civilization building (-like) is addictive.

Excellent game, runs like a dream on Linix. Lots of fun.

Is there anyone who's tried Factorio who doesn't like it? I haven't come across a Factorio rant yet.

Still very much going on Tears of the Kingdom. My kids love watching me play so I'm not in any real rush to be done with it.

Plus the looks I get at t ball games when my kids are dancing around chanting about the blood moon rising are priceless.

[-] xill47@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Finished FF16 recently, a great experience, but somewhat disappointed that there aren't superbosses in the base game Now going through Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, and the influence from PLvsPW cannot be underestimated

Jagged Alliance 3 and it rocks!

[-] the_rhyme_minister@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Let my PC gamepass lapse since getting a Steam Deck and the only game I really missed was Battletech. Picked it up in the Steam sale and finally started a new campaign today.

Never got more than a few hours in before but this is exactly what I want right now. It just feels so enormous and grand and does an excellent job of making me feel like a speck in the galaxy.

Pretty pleased with my company name and logo too.

[-] cccrontab@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Just started Death's Door and I'm sucked in.

[-] stochasticity@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Splatoon 3. The only shooters I like are unconventional and hyper-unrealistic. It is certainly that.

[-] TotallyNotBears@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Skyrim together reborn with my friends it's been really fun actually. It does lag and have some really hilarious glitches but I like that I can play the original Skyrim with others it felt like it was missing that.
