Landlord tax cuts? You've got to be shitting me why are they getting tax cuts
The real estate industry as a whole donated heavily to both National and Act. Not just landlords, but also estate agents etc. They desperately want more activity in the property market even if it means house prices start going up again.
even if it means house prices start going up again
They definitely want house prices to start going up again.
National campaigned on several measures that have a known effect of raising house prices e.g. narrowing the RBNZ mandate, moving the bright line test, reintroducing tax incentives.
I'm shocked. ๐
Shocked.
Well not that shocked.
Meanwhile, police are threatening to strike over an 'insulting' pay offer.
It's incredible they get up and talk about how there's no money for public services, and then immediately defend giving $3 billion to landlords.
AFIK the police are not allowed to strike. I am sure they can become lazy and slow when they want to though.
Ah yes you're right, earlier articles were saying strike. Now they're saying industrial action so yeah, work to rule and stuff like that
could they do things like refuse to issue fines?
Not sure, that would be a partial strike so don't know if the prohibition on police striking extends to that or not.
Work to rule is more like exploiting the mismatch between the requirements of a role on paper, and what it takes to actually do a role in practice. For example, stopping doing things like doing extra unpaid overtime or taking on responsibilities that aren't technically in your job description but are necessary to keep things going.
They're allowed to quit though, and I'm sure we'll see an uptick in that.
I doubt it. I don't think the job market for ex cops is that hot.
I'm pretty sure they had no idea about the cost. They probably asked their finance minister, who, instead of reading the paperwork tossed a kina at a flock of seagulls and interpreted their reaction as the answer.
We'll continue to have an unreliable, potentially dangerous and end of life interisland ferry service - but at least Landlords will be able to keep their BMWs current.
What's going to happen when some disaster strikes and hundreds of people die.
I'm so glad we've got some responsible financial stewardship after all this time!
And yet:
National/ ACT/ NZ First (55%) increase lead over Labour/ Greens/ Maori on 41% โ now at 14% points

I don't understand the values of this country anymore
Its pretty common that folks will cement their opinion after an election. Buyers remorse tends to take a bit longer to kick in.
Asked how he got the numbers so wrong on interest deductibility, Luxon said, "we didn't".
Does that mean they lied originally, or he's lying now?
He lies constantly so both.
Nasty budget surprises? I'm so surprised.
