Mitch McConnell, 81 year old US Senate minority leader, stopped mid sentence and stared out into space before being escorted away during a recent press conference. Video

Here is an alternative Piped link(s): https://piped.video/watch?v=nq8fMwtqI9k

Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.

I'm open-source, check me out at GitHub.

Hey, this is the first time in a decade I see a website that knows what <noscript> is!

Trigger warning: extreme nerding(edit: that's a lie, my university's on-line didactic portal has done it for at least 2 years and it's hardly a coincidence that it has a C.S. faculty - which I'm a part of. I need a life ffs)

Man it’s fucking nuts that an 81 year old has this job

[-] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 21 points 11 months ago

Americans love their 80 year old politicians. The upper levels of government are basically a retirement home, it's wild.

[-] scottyjoe9@sh.itjust.works 10 points 11 months ago

Imagine not wanting to retire when you clearly have a shit tonne of money and could live a very comfortable and happy retirement. He probably could have retired like 40 years ago too. I don't get it.

[-] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 12 points 11 months ago

Power. It's all about power. Those who have it never give it up voluntarily.

[-] scottyjoe9@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 months ago

Yeah that is the only explanation but it's just an obsession at that point... Keeping power to the literal death sounds like mental illness to me.

[-] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 3 points 11 months ago

It's a very human trait, unfortunately. That's why democratic control over any sort of power is the only way to improve society.

[-] Holzkohlen@feddit.de 4 points 11 months ago

This is the only logical explanation. Which makes them exactly the kind of people you don't want to have in power.

[-] ox0r@jlai.lu 7 points 11 months ago

Calling it a job is kind of a stretch

[-] Casmael@geddit.social 2 points 11 months ago

Lmao good point

[-] jared@kbin.social 10 points 11 months ago

He just needed a reboot, damn blue screens.

[-] bactus_mole_wang@lemm.ee 18 points 11 months ago

My friend posted a picture of her cat frozen in the same way and suggested maybe he was hypnotized cause he saw a birb. Do we have any confirmation of whether or not he was chittering under his breath?

[-] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 8 points 11 months ago

The damn slacker with the scythe just just go and do his job.

[-] SpezChokesOnDik@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago

I think death is going to be waiting a while. Turtles have an exceptionally long lifespan.

[-] Jagget@programming.dev 7 points 11 months ago

Oh cmon all these barely alive politicians. We shouldn’t allow ppl older than 60 into politics.

[-] explodicle@local106.com 4 points 11 months ago

There's plenty of older politicians with their wits about them. The problem is the witless voters who support McConnell.

[-] garlic_yogurt@lemmy.ml 3 points 11 months ago
