One unfortunate side-effect of assholes not understanding when a woman is interested in them is that guys who don't want to be assholes will ignore what women think are obvious signals. Hence this Internet classic.
I would suggest women ask a gay man how he'd hit on someone he was into, and do that. Gay guys are incredible at letting me know they're into me in no uncertain terms.
