I always wonder how people in ordinary settings open their phones on magnetar brightness. Like, do you just not have optic nerves anymore?

[-] kevincox@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

This is how I feel when my partner is using their phone at night.

[-] blackluster117@possumpat.io 13 points 4 months ago

Always nice to have a meme affirm that you're not the only one out there.

[-] MyOneEyedWilly@real.lemmy.fan 9 points 4 months ago

Exactly. Using my computer late at night always feels like I’ve starred at the sun lol.

[-] itsnicodegallo@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago

Do y'all not at least have a night now setting? I have one that some the screen and makes everything a slightly warmer color.

[-] blackluster117@possumpat.io 1 points 4 months ago

I'm a dim lighting person in general, so I have all my monitor settings tuned down and night mode on 24/7. No more screen headaches.

Yeah, but Windows comes with it now. It's under the setting "Nightlight", I think.

[-] btr_fan87@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

f.lux is a lot more tweakable.

[-] itsnicodegallo@lemm.ee 9 points 4 months ago

Any time I see people at night with the brightness on 100%, I think, "I'm sure they also sit on thumbtacks and lick sand paper."

I think you misunderstand, the meme is pointing out that I was, at the time, using notepad fullscreen as a light source so I could see what I was doing while writing stuff down on paper at my desk. I think you'll agree that notepad is a slightly better light source than NPP

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Good life advice in general.

[-] 9point6@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Genuinely, how do you guys still exist?

Obviously just my opinion, but a modern editor like VS code does everything better and if you want to go the other way vim does everything and more. I just don't see why someone chooses notepad++ any time after about 2010

[-] ExtraMedicated@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

I use vscode for project work. I use notepad++ for general notes and all other ad-hoc editing. I feel like my workspace would be too cluttered otherwise.

[-] Gutek8134@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

If notepad is enough for OP (who are probably just editing .txt files), VSCode will be an overkill

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

NPP is great for all sorts of things, not just code. Im sure Vim is fine but I dont care to learn it, it looks like a pain in the ass to learn. People don't make memes about how to exit NPP.

[-] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 2 points 4 months ago

Notepad++ has a certain classic "Back when Windows was cool" appeal.

VSCode is cumbersome with a photoshop-like startup and a welcome screen and project manager and blah blah blah for just wanting to see "What's in this file real quick..."

I used to like Atom while that was still a thing.

Now for taking notes or editing simple files, it's always Kate. Follows my dark theme too! :D

[-] bruhduh@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Why not "geany" ? It's lightweight and have great functionality

[-] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago

Why the hell would I use something other than notepad or ++ for editing YAML, TXT, JSON, etc.? Lightweight and does everything I need it to.

It's also super useful for pulling up and actually, you know, notig something down real quick without worrying about formatting

[-] idunnololz@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Notepad (the windows one) has dark theme now D:

[-] vox@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

it's dark mode in windows 11 and even has tabs + proper search... ~~like most linux alternatives~~

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Using vi in a white on black terminal 👍🏻

[-] bruhduh@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Just use yellow glasses and you'll be fine, i mean i had my eyes burning till i used dark theme, yellow glasses and "redshift"

[-] n3cr0@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

🧓Users until they discovered dark mode

Some webmasters have spent years tweaking their layout and designing their site, and very few get any traffic. This site, as shitty as it looks, gets over 1 million visits per month. I use large fonts also as a protest against all the stylish garbage you see out there. When I go to a web site, I WANT TO READ THE CONTENT. Trust me, that micro-font everyone uses isn't nearly as original as they think. I've chosen a black background for most of my text because it's easier on the eyes than staring at a white screen. Think about it: your monitor is not a piece of paper, no matter how hard you try to make it one. Staring at a white background while you read is like staring at a light bulb (don't believe me? Try turning off the lights next time you use a word processor). Would you stare at a light bulb for hours at a time? Not if you want to keep your vision.

https://notepad-plus-plus.org/downloads/ > Settings > Preferences > Dark Mode. Settings > Style Configurator > something else.

At work? Word > File > Account > Office Theme. Open the drop-down menu and select Black.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkreader/ Use it.

Windows: Right Click > Personalization > Colors > Dark Mode

Voila

[-] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago

At work? File > Account > Office Theme. Open the drop-down menu and select Black.

My office uses 2013 so uh, guess what doesn't exist? No, really. I hate it.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkreader/ Use it.

Honestly, ime? Don't. It BREAKS more webpages than any other addon I've ever used. It's nice, sure, but about 30-40% of websites break in either minor or extreme ways. Most common for me is changing the pop-up-login-box color from white to black on most sites completely breaks it.

At first I was just pausing it on sites it didn't work with but that was so much extra work I uninstalled

[-] blanketswithsmallpox@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

It's rare these days than when it first started. FYI you can just click on the site name and it remains disabled for that specific site rather than turning it on or off regularly.
