The 51-year-old man had smuggled his work into the display at Munich’s Pinakothek der Moderne “in the hope of achieving his artistic breakthrough”, the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung reported, citing police sources.

“All I can say is that we did not receive any positive feedback on the addition from visitors to the gallery,”

Not a strong debut and I understand why museum did this but they're pursuing charges fir drilling 2 holes in a wall? The corporate mentality for an art institution is so cringe.

Most likely they couldn't figure out anything else to charge him hence the "drilling the wall" thing.

Sounds like they didn't get any complaints either.

I'm sure it has a lot more to do with discouraging others from giving it a go.

Maybe they didn't like the guy and jumped at the occasion.

That painting will be part of a special exhibition in a couple of decades.

The Pinakothek spokesperson said the painting had been hung in the early hours and spotted by staff soon after the museum opened the same day.

For some reason I was really hoping he got away with it for a little while.

So this one time I snuck into a corporate building in Spokane and hung artwork in a tucked-away hallway off of the lobby. I forgot about it until a couple years later and it was all still there.

It honestly sounds like a really good idea to get your art out into the world.

[-] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Or it means no one has really noticed it in all the years it was there.

[-] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago

More likely this 😇

I’d love to see the painting.

[-] john89@lemmy.ca 5 points 7 months ago

You're telling me they didn't include it in the article? In 2024?

I'm shocked, I tell you. SHOCKED.

[-] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

I mean, the dude did it so he could get eyes on his work. So that would be basically giving him exactly what he wanted.

[-] Fades@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

they're going for criminal charges due to 'willful damage of property'

that is some fuckin bullshit, two small drill holes and you want criminal action??? fuck off

Doesn't surprise me.

The art "community" is full of assholes just sucking off those who have wealth.

If this guy cashed out without buying in, that wouldn't be good for the people profiting off of art and the useful idiots gawking at it.
