Welcome to /c/SoftwareGore!

This is a community where you can poke fun at nasty software. This community is your go-to destination to look at the most cringe-worthy and facepalm-inducing moments of software gone wrong. Whether it's a user interface that defies all logic, a crash that leaves you in disbelief, silly bugs or glitches that make you go crazy, or an error message that feels like it was written by an unpaid intern, this is the place to see them all!

Remember to read the rules before you make a post or comment!

These rules are subject to change at any time with or without prior notice. (last updated: 7th December 2023 - Introduction of Rule 11 with one sub-rule prohibiting posting of AI content)

  4. NSFW content of any kind is not allowed in this community.
  5. Do not create duplicate posts or comments. Such duplicated content will be removed. This also includes spamming.

    • Don't be a bigot.
    • Hate speech, harassment or discrimination based on one's race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, beliefs or any other identity is strictly disallowed. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to discuss in this community.
  9. The moderators retain the right to remove any post or comment and ban users/bots that do not necessarily violate these rules if deemed necessary.
  10. At last, use common sense. If you think you shouldn't say something to a person in real life, then don't say it here.
  11. Community specific rules:
    • Posts that contain any AI-related content as the main focus (for example: AI “hallucinations”, repeated words or phrases, different than expected responses, etc.) will be removed. (polled)

I was trying to browse the site, and I think it might be faced with a few problems.

Bravo, I think this comment wins the internet for today.

This isn't even software gore...it's showing a basic error.

Why did you take a screenshot of your entire desktop?

Why do you have Edge, Chrome, and Firefox? And all three pinned to the taskbar?

And if you're going to use Reddit on a browser, why on earth would you use anything but old.reddit?

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 year ago

> why do you have many browsers

Testing issues, that’s my work computer as well

> why windows 11 default theme

I’m quoting myself on this one, gross

[–] Zidane@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I use two separate browsers myself because Firefox doesn't have the ability (as far as I'm aware) to have two (or more) browsers with separate instances/icons for different profiles that are taskbar pinnable (separately)...

The most egregious thing OP has done however is centered their taskbar as well as left the search bar visible

That's Reddit for you

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

It's run by incompetent bastards. That's what happened to it. This is what happens when you have zero attachment to what you actually produce, and instead care only about the money. They'd light the servers on fire today if that paid slightly more money. They have zero concern for the value the site represents to humanity. Same for Facebook and Fuckerberg.

[–] Ab_intra@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They probably have a server outage. This happens from time to time..

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Which is always their fault. Server reliability is 99.9999999% uptime now, with load balancing elastic servers.

[–] sosodev@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I can tell you don’t work in software lol

False!

Syntax error

[–] steakmeoutt@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right so when AWS or Akamai goes down that’s the fault of their customers right?

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

AWS has insane uptime, and there are backup nodes all over the world. Reddit usually does something stupid with their code that causes outages. For a company with as much resources as they have, they should have way better disaster recovery in place.

[–] Dreizehn@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Simply bail out and delete. F Reddit.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Halt and set fire.

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 10 points 1 year ago

This is not a software problem though. If you need Reddit, just go for old.reddit and you should be fine.

[–] WhyDoYouPersist@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Yeah, just go ahead and erase that bookmark already.

[–] SomeBoyo@feddit.de 9 points 1 year ago

spez had to vacuum and tripped over the pi

[–] Uriel_Copy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

old.reddit still works. Shoulda not fixed what ain't broke

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

It doesn't really work any more. Any post with an image will just show you the image when you try to open the post, and there is a little button at the bottom that says "view post". If you click that button it tries to install the app. If you don't let it install the app then it takes you to the new site. Ugh, I can't even. I hate them so much!

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Any post with an image will just show you the image when you try to open the post

This gave me hope that it would actually just be the image, not wrapped in reddit's viewer UI bullshit, in a sort of "task failed successfully" way. But no, you still get their nonsense wrapped around it. Why would anyone want to just look at an image when that's what they click on.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That’s not been my experience.

This was the first post with an image I saw when I went to see if something had changed:

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Are you on desktop?

Edit: I just saw someone else commented and said old was broken today too. So maybe it has changed since I looked at it.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Nope - I tested on mobile (iOS/ Safari)

Just so be clear, I was commenting that I haven’t had the issue you mentioned with image posts on old.reddit.com outside of today’s outage(s)

[–] kn33@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It was also broken for a good bit today

[–] krimsonbun@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 year ago

ew i forgot people still use that website

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago
[–] felykiosa@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

First problem was to visit reddit :)

[–] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Is that Windows 11 or a very convincing KDE theme?
