As funny as this is, and as much as I wish it was true, unfortunately I don't think it's quite that bad

I agree, It would be 3 weeks at least.

Seriously though, raw brushed stainless steel was a terrible idea.

With Xitter, Cybertruck and all the other whacky things going on, it is a wonder that Musk has any financiers left at all.

Oh for sure, and I'm sure that someone told him what a bad idea it was, and that he was like "NO STAINLESS STEEL DOESN'T RUST YOURE FIRED".

like... Why else would they not even attempt to figure out how to apply a clear coat? Musk must have squashed any attempts.

The thing is that he DeLorean DMC-12 was also built from uncoated brushed stainless-steel and it was terrible.

The only reason why people remember the DMC was because it was such a failure and BTTF.

The only reason it was in BTTF was because it was such a hilarious joke that a DMC could get above 60Mph in a mall carpark.

Wait, they really weren't painted?

From what I've read, that's an optional add-on. Costs a few thousand dollars more.

I think its stainless so It doesn't rust ...

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 months ago

Stain-less, not stain-free

[-] DNOS@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

Sorry English is not my main language can u explain it please I have the feeling it's a joke but I don't get it ... What's the difference between stain less and stain free ... Both are without stains right?..

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago

The other two comments have it right. "Stainless" would generally be read as "free from stains", but the material really isn't free from stains, it just rusts slower than most other types of steel. It's sort of a pun that stainless steel merely "stains less", and isn't completely free from it.

Thanks now I get it ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

[-] anguo@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago

I think it's meant as a joke ("less" as in "fewer").

In all seriousness though, stainless steel still gets rust, it's just much more resistant to it. From what I've read in comments, Tesla used a cheaper grade of stainless steel that is less resistant.

[-] DNOS@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago

That's interesting thank you ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

[-] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Stain-less could mean "without stains" the joke is that there are still stains, there's just less of them.

It's a joke, but not really, because stainless steel does indeed rust under certain conditions or certain alloys. I hear "stain-less, not stain-proof"

You triggered my nostalgia you bastard.

Unfun fact, that was nearly twenty years ago. Someone born the day you watched that could now be the ~~proud driver~~ owner of a cyber truck.

[-] rwhitisissle@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago

What is this from? Some kind of movie or t.v. show?

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago

no idea what show the clip is from

[-] loweffortname@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 months ago

Because it's the Internet, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, so... It's from Doctor Who.

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

I genuinely didn't know :)
