I'd love to know if all these drone strikes and explosions deep into Russian territory are some spy shit going down or partisans or whatever. It's going to make for some interesting documentaries in years to come I think

[-] Aux@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Probably it's just Putin bombing his ~~slaves~~ citizens to justify some extreme action against Ukraine in the near future. I mean he did that before.

Where does the term partisans come from? I’ve only seen it used recently in relation to this war

[-] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

https://www.etymonline.com/word/partisan

It’s pretty old. I’ve heard it most of my life in this usage.

[-] 22dobbeltskudhul@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Goes back to WW2 at least. Russian partisans fucked the germans up behind the frontlines.

Correction: The plant that went up in flames reportedly used to manufacture equipment for the Russian military.

That was an impressive one. Not just blocking the "special military operation is contained" narrative like the other deep strikes, but also hitting high tech war supplies.

I just read the military optics company was renting warehouse space to a pyrotechnics company. So, this is either a successful operation or a horrible reminder not to put tactical magnifying glasses next to a giant pile of fireworks when the sun is out.

[-] Rose@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The owner of the pyrotechnics company denied this. The targeted factory was reportedly connected to the manufacturing of a next-generation bomber.

Fortunately, nothing of value was lost.

Will someone please think about the водка! There were likely ~~several~~ ~~dozens~~ thousands of bottles that sacrificed everything during this event.

[-] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Are there no other sources for this besides the daily beast?

Maybe this is what Russians get for giving Putin free reign for a quarter of a century.

Don't want to see anyone get hurt, but FFS the Russian people just went along with it when Putin came to power and steadily gained ever more control of the government. The Russian people could have stopped this 10, 15, 20 years ago but didn't. Now they have an entrenched mad man in there who controls everything, has gotten them into a pointless war in Ukraine, and clearly shows no sign of stepping down.

Attacks on Russian soil have only started.

Russians have tried to get him out of office but then they get arrested, radiation poisoning or suicided.

[-] Hazdaz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

They've had protests, sure, and individuals have tried to go up against him, but never in the masses needed to overthrow his government.

[-] Historical_General@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago

Sadly Bill Clinton and Tony Blair backed Putin initially. It's not totally the people's fault.

[-] Hazdaz@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Bill was President up until 2001 and Putin gained power only 2 years earlier. At the time there was no reason not to support him. He was a freely elected leader. But that was 2 decades ago and a whole lot of things changed since then.

Merkel as well

[-] ghostBones@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

This is exceptionally interesting considering the fact that Ukraine has made great use of western-supplied night vision against Russian forces. It seems logical that they would want to deny such an advantage to their enemies.

Hmmm. Any chance Putin was caught in the blast? Fucking piece of shit.

[-] madcaesar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

The bitch is hiding in a bunker he was nowhere near this.

[-] CoolSouthpaw@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I know. What a shame.
