The Battle of Waterloo (18 June 1815) was the last major engagement of the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815), fought by a French army under Emperor Napoleon I (r. 1804-1814; 1815) against two armies of the Seventh Coalition. Waterloo resulted in the end of both Napoleon's career and the First French Empire and is often considered one of history's most important battles.

On 1 March 1815, Napoleon returned from exile to regain control of his empire, beginning the period of the Hundred Days. The great powers of Europe responded immediately by branding him an outlaw and declaring war. The decisive Battle of Waterloo was fought between the towns of Mont-Saint-Jean and Waterloo in modern Belgium, then part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Napoleon's objective was to crush the Anglo-allied army of Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, before it could be reinforced by a nearby Prussian army under Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von BlΓΌcher. Napoleon nearly succeeded in his goal when his men captured the farmhouse of La Haye Sainte and stood poised to break through the allied center. However, the timely arrival of several Prussian corps and a failed charge by the French Imperial Guard dashed Napoleon's hopes of victory. Four days after his defeat at Waterloo, Napoleon abdicated for a second time and was exiled to the island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic, where he would die six years later.

The Battle of Waterloo has often been regarded as one of the most decisive battles in history; it brought an end to the Napoleonic period and ushered in a new political era known as the Concert of Europe. Additionally, Waterloo marked an end to nearly 23 years of constant warfare that had devastated continental Europe since the Battle of Valmy in September 1792. After Waterloo, Europe enjoyed decades of relative peace, as the great powers did not fight another major war until the Crimean War (1853-1856). Still, the importance of the Battle of Waterloo is sometimes overstated; historians have argued that the odds against Napoleon were impossibly high, and had he not been defeated at Waterloo, he likely would have met his end on some other battlefield shortly thereafter

so i was a bit shameful about using Suno while writing my own lyrics to make AI music.

but i've realized something missing from most AI "art". you just bang out some prompts to "engineer" a result. it's creatively void. but seeing my written words, my poetry, made into music is different. i'm getting intense emotional feelings from hearing hyper personalized songs, writing about my/my partners current feelings and frustrations and ideology. it's driving me to write more.

it's just "art" for us really. so maybe post-capitalism this will be a legit function of this crap

It is amazing the difference in mood when I woke up after like a couple of hours of sleep (heat wave fml) thinking I have work today and after i check my schedule and see todays off.

I could probably introspect and realize I hate my job more than I think I do or just enjoy the day… decisions….

Noam Chomsky's wife denies the philosopher's death

Earlier on Tuesday (18), there had been reported the death of linguist and philosopher Noam Chomsky at the age of 95, according to reports in the American magazine Jacobin and the British New Statesman, as well as a publication by the Spanish party Podemos.

The professor's wife, Valeria Chomsky, denied the death, confirming that he "is well".

Chomsky, who is professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Arizona, is in an intensive care unit in the city of SΓ£o Paulo. In July last year, he suffered a serious stroke.

I'm done with my exams and now I'm playing Gran Turismo 4 on the emulator using my Logitech G29 wheel. It isn't the most realistic game or experience, but the game looks stunning for being a PS2 game, the amount of content is absurd and frankly, they don't make games like this one anymore. It's just gone, nothing beats GT4.

Gonna do a battery replacement on my Pixel 4a today. Kinda nervous because people say it's really easy to break the screen and fingerprint sensor in the process but Β―\_(ツ)_/Β― might as well give it a try

If it breaks I'm just gonna bite the bullet and get a refurbished pixel 5 off Amazon. Sucks losing the headphone jack but the DAC dongle I got off AliExpress seems to work well so no biggie. I just gotta hodl until the pixel 10 next year, then make that last as long as I can

Made some rhubarb juice, there wasn't enough red color in the skin so it ended up swamp water green instead of pink, but it's still tasty
