"Trump is a felon. He is a pathological liar. He is a menace," wrote the Vermont senator. "But the national conversation is focused on President Biden's age and capacity. Only he can change it."

Biden is the incumbent, and the incumbent is more likely to win. I don't believe they'll give us someone more progressive than Biden, so why would I want him to be replaced?

We all saw that debate with our own eyes, I think discussing alternatives is healthy.

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah, but the majority of voters probably didn't watch.

The time to discuss alternatives was the primaries they are over. The majority of democrats chose Biden and he is their nominee. Going back and changing out candidates after the primaries, or Biden resigning from his campaign will actually hand Trump a victory period.

We did this back in 1968 when the democratic nominee dropped out he lost. He was also polling higher than Nixon and was probably going to be him but then the dems changed their nominee and history took place.

This is it. We either stand by our democracy and push to make it better through voting in better leaders or we let Trump and MAGA take over. I'm not crazy that Biden is the person that democracy rests on; so it goes.

Its too bad that you guys are even in this situation (I'm Canadian). I really feel sorry for him but someone really should have been more transparent about this issue prior to letting it get this out of hand. I hope everything sorts itself out, best of luck down there.

You think if Trump win Canada will be spared?

We have our own issues up here lol

We are in a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. Three months ago I would have said Biden would most likely win by a very slim margin again. Now I would say there is a real chance for it to go the other way. However, replace him, and like you said that person is also very unlikely to win at this point.

I would say there is a real chance for it to go the other way.

Alright, why do you believe that? Whenever I ask, I get a response that boils down to vibes and bad polling data, and whenever I give my reasons, I get downvoted to hell by people who refuse to answer any questions. I think this is a psy-op, honestly.

Well, my opinion is that: 1. It is largely a popularity contest and Trump is still insanely popular with his crowd and Biden is not popular in general 2. The Maga crowd will certainly vote, so the Democrats would need to be united and show up to beat that. With any real doubt about Biden, I think a large enough to matter amount of Dems will either not vote or vote for other.

Because if the election were held today, he would lose. He can’t gain ground because he can’t effectively campaign due to his age. If they change the candidate, they still might lose. But, at least they can make their case effectively to voters and campaign.

When things aren’t working, do you change things up, or stick with what you are doing, even when you know it won’t produce the desired outcome?

Find me a poll that shows Biden losing (as in outside of the margin of error), reveals the demographic breakdown, and doesn't have 18 to 20-somethings voting more for Trump. The polls are dogshit right now and if you look at the numbers that's what you'll figure out. All the models that don't rely on that faulty data show Biden winning.

Then post a link.

The peril isn't to Democrats the peril is to the United States no longer being a democracy nor a nation. Trump and MAGA want the states to decide everything for themselves and take us back to a Confederacy of States.

It's this entire thinking of party over country BS that we've watched for the last 20 years from the GOP. Now the Democrats want to so the same thing. This Senator is just being another agent of chaos and not standing behind the majority of voters that kept Biden as the nominee. Voting is over, the conventions are just side-shows to generate more funding for campaigns to affirm the voters wishes.

Or, maybe they’re worried that keeping Biden on the ballot will drag the entire Democratic ticket down with him.

“So, you’re worried that your party is not just gonna lose the White House if Joe Biden is at the top of the ticket, but that you’re also going to lose both chambers of Congress?” Collins asked.

“I think that we could lose the whole thing,” Bennet answered.
