I just assumed the article was bringing to light, now, something that was said 8 years ago, but no. It took me a minute to realize the article is actually contemporaneous to the quote, being dated Thursday 30 March 2017

It rhymes so tidily with current events that it would seem like lazy writing, if we had the good fortune of the story being fictional. Alas, reality is under no obligation to have decently written plots, or even make sense to us half the time.
