I went from feeling super excited that star trek conventions exist to super disappointed that they probably don’t do world tours.
You've really never heard of trek conventions? culturally it might be the most famous convention besides like comiccon lol
Id argue even more famous as a concept than comicon, it's just comicon has absorbed general nerd culture Inc things like star _ _ _ _.
Star trek isn’t as well known where I live so I don’t see how I would’ve heard about them
it's just the conventions sort of took on a life of there own in pop culture here, so it's surprising for a trek fan to not know of them lol. no shade or anything, just surprising.
I got into star trek fairly recently, I wasn’t even aware of the existence of the shows before a few years ago 🤷🏻♂️
Also it seems that a local convention does exist but it doesn’t look very exciting tbh
Trek started the nerd convention thing. In thr late 60s. There were star trek conventions before there were comic book ones or any of that and they were generally diy and self organized by the nerds for the nerds. Now there's an annual giant fucking one in Vegas thars fully licensed and sponsored and all and then there's numerous other ones in larger cities and even kinda smaller more diy ones in medium sized towns. As a trekkie, I can say, those who like it, like it a lot. It's a utopian communist future, it has like over 1000 hours of content in the TV shows and films alone, let alone novels and comics and shit. Once you're into it, you're INTO it.
There are local ones in big cities but there is a giant annual one in Vegas. One year there was a full scale recreation of Quark's bar, it's a pretty big production usually. I'd love to go to one and if I ever have money and vacation time that'd be my first pick. I mean, I'd also go look at a desert and try to see a grand canyon since I'm over that way too, as well as other Vegas shit, but it'd be the reason for being there.
Because all things are political.
Not only should they not be allowed to "nerd out", they should be thrown into a large pit.
