liberals like this never wonder how one's class position impacts these choices.

what states you can travel to,

"don't let anyone tell you where you can visit flying business class" that is this woman's conception of freedom

what you can & cannot do with your own body

if you are rich you can just fly somewhere to have your abortion, seems like Jo should know that after conspicuously mentioning "freedom" to travel

yeah, one of the main complaints my parents' generation had about the warsaw pact times was that they couldnt travel as easily.

nobody ever talks about how poor people cant travel even now, in this supposed freedom...

Never travelled on my own dime in my adult life and I'm mid 30s. I often can't afford to even travel to see family unless they live within a few hours of me. Have been saving up to travel for years now.

yeah, capitalism managed to somehow externalize this too. it's not the government stopping you, it's just a maaaagic force field, called money.

I think she might have been referring to laws preventing "abortion tourism", not to run excessive defense for her at some parts very vague post.

It's all bourgeois negative freedom

If the Party doesn't want reactionary books to get published to safeguard my actual capacity to receive healthcare then count me in

She should stop simping for the blue fascists then. And join a communist party.

[-] FranticNut@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 2 months ago

yeah comical how she's saying this as she supports a party that thinks someone's existence is "illegal" and deserves to put in a cage.

The freedom to say the N-word without getting a bunch of dirty looks

Freedom of property owners to do whatever with their property, I imagine

[-] sinovictorchan@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 months ago

Or use their market power from their ownership over the means of production and greater investment opportunities to establish a plutocratic system where the rich 1% can dictate the punishments and rewards or market participants.

The Western European diaspora still justify the abduction of Indigenous children, imprisonment of children in fake school death camps, federal reserve concentration camps, property right violations, plagiarism, and authoritarianism against Indigenous people. They also claim that thief of the fruit of your labor and planned starvation are "freedom" to victims of fake school death camps.

I do be glad age of consent laws exist but otherwise yeah fair point

[-] darkernations@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

But is it OK for capital to deny those freedoms? If not then you need something more powerful then capital.

FE:

Freedom does not consist in any dreamt-of independence from natural laws, but in the knowledge of these laws, and in the possibility this gives of systematically making them work towards definite ends.
