I really need to do a Sonic marathon to see all these gems. I heard Sonic 06 is truly special, but Sonic Boom is up there.
Sonic '06 actually has some of the best story in the series. Shadow is at his peak, and Silver's story is good too. It's just Sonic's story (especially with Elise) and the gameplay that ruins it. Mostly the gameplay. But even with the gameplay problems, the level design is pretty good, as you can see if you play the Project '06 fan remake.
Oh yeah I heard of that. With the Shadow generations game coming, I kind of want to do the games he's in. Whenever I have time, anyway.

These are the only games where Shadow is actually important to the story in anyway.
Not the ones where he's playable but the ones where is playable AND story relevant
(In Sonic Boom he is a cameo at best... but before Sega took over what Big Red Button was cooking it's implied he may have been leading a faction of the Black Arms)
And here I am only with SA2 and Heroes experience. I'm thinking to do the runs soon since retroachevements started supporting GameCube, and I found a Shadow the Hedgehog: Reloaded mod that's highly praised and supported.

It's like they were prepared to make Shadow 2 but Shadow 1 didn't realize that didn't do so well so they pretended Sonic had anything to do with the story.

Yeah but Sonic barely has any interaction with Silver outside of one fight and the latter going "Oh wait you're a red herring and Memphis Tenessee is a dickpenis."
Blaze doesn't even go "Oh hey Sonic. Remember Sonic Rush? Me neither."
They fight in the city, yes. Then they almost fight at Radical Train, but Shadow gets in the way. Then they meet up and go through Kingdom Valley together, then when the Egg Carrier crashes, the two of them go back in time together so Sonic can stop it. That's more interaction that Silver and Shadow have I think.
Never trust the 300 IQ of someone who's name is as cool as Robotnik but goes by Eggman anyway.
especially since canonically (in SA1) Sonic started calling him that to make fun of him and he just went with it. on the one hand props for just saying to the haters "you have no power here", but at the same time like... breh?
It's a Resident Evil VII: Biohazard situation. He's always been Eggman in Japan. Sega of America, being a weirdly independent and opinionated entity from Sega of Japan, made up a whole ridiculous backstory about "Ivo Kintobor," and that influenced the US manuals, future translations, the SatAM cartoon show, and to a lesser extent the Archie comics.
The exchange in Sonic Adventure was Sonic Team proper trying to syncretize these localization differences. Unfortunately, unlike Resident Evil being called Biohazard in Japan, Doctor Robotnik is blatantly the cooler name for the character, even if it is a cold-war relic.
That is one thing I hate about Classic Sonic..

I dream of one day buying Sega and declaring that the series will now officially be following a new canon taking place on Mobius which is threatened by Dr. Robotnik.
And yeah.. at this point the only reason the Eggman name is so prominent is because of Sega's contempt for any western element of the canon.

Fun fact about Eggman in Unleashed: there's this line in Mazuri (the Africa stand-in) where he says "I should've known you'd still be alive" to Sonic after having fought him in the Tornado earlier, but this was apparently a continuity issue that was caused by them introducing the Tornado segment into the game (I think Unwiished doesn't have it and thus the line makes sense?) But Eggman in that pre-boss cutscene before the Mazuri boss has no excuse for being perplexed; a competent player will take around 2 to 3 minutes to complete the level just before this.

He does call himself a "master" to a bunch of Black people in literally the Mobius (inb4 "It's not Mobius") version of Africa

Region differences. Japan called him Eggman. But the US called him Dr. Robotnik at first to sort of make him more intimidating I guess. Both regions sort of merged the names over time.
