Here in India, media is a tool of the fascists. I am ashamed to say it but the concept of journalistic standards is alien to the audience here. The media literally parrots the IOF line, to such a degree of precision that makes me think that I underestimated the sheer evil that can exist in the heart of human beings.

But India is a kind of a special case in the Global South, since its an Islamophobic Hindu fascist state and the preposterous IOF talking points slot well with the racist talking points.

But I am wondering what the situation is like everywhere else. Please fill me in.

here in brazil the mainstream is more sionist than israeli midia itself, not bullshiting you. they tried to cover and twist the facts about gaza genocide as much as they could. just now we are seeing a tiny tiny spark of critics because the bombing in lebanon, because there is a rather large lebanese community here.

Here in Russia state media is mostly bothsiding everything, condemning both Israel and "terrorist attacks" from resistance (at least government is doing a lot to support Palestinians). Biggest war bloggers are mostly zionist, constantly talking about "terrorists", "ineffective Iranian attacks". Every DPR/LPR affiliated media is anti-zionist though, which is understandable.

Here in Brazil mainstream media like Globo tend to be very Zionist.

And I don't get why but the conservatives just fucking love Isn'treal, its common to see Isn'treali flags when these conservatives do gatherings and protests. I guess a lot of it is because of Bolsonaro. A lot of evangelicals do that to. It's so weird. I remember seeing uses of the flag way before October 7 too.

I don't see much in local news about the genocide anymore, but it's baffling that every time there is something there's always so many Zionists spamming the colonizer's flag in comments and such.

[-] Zugumba@bolha.one 11 points 1 day ago

@KrasMazov

Evangelical churches plays a big part in the popular support for the Zionists in Brazil. I think theres a belief on their part that Jesus will return if the jewish people go to the promised land, which is basically the Eretz Yisrael that the Zionists want.

@ksynwa

[-] KrasMazov@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 day ago

Oh so that's why. A part of my family is evangelical, but they don't really talk much about religion other than mentioning something here and there, so I never knew that.

Almost any mainstream media in my country are Western tolerant.

[-] Aru@lemmygrad.ml 40 points 2 days ago

Radio stations in some Algerian provinces were unironically playing Hamas songs then putting a news a cut every time Abu Obeida spoke.
Pro Government news are saying "the genocidal war of the zionist entity backed by the west" and are reporting daily deaths and speeches by Hamas Hizbullah and Ansarallah.
The biggest (real) opposition is calling for us to step out of the square of shame and declare war.

In Mexico, the mainstream media(Tv Azteca, Televisa) are pro israelí and pro imperialist. 😔

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

Seeing Mexicans, Brazilians, and (presumably) Jordanians claiming this- I'm not surprised, as the US basically owns (or influences to such an extent it effectively owns) much of the mainstream "local" media around the world.

How is the mainstream sentiment, though? I know that much of Latin America deals with... considerable amounts of cracKKKerism/comprador-ism, but most countries are not generally as cursed as the imperial cores all the same. Hopefully this is severely weakening these media sources and the western influence on public opinion?

[-] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I am from a rural region in mexico, most people have no clue about international politics here so the mainstream narrative takes over unfortunely.

Interestingly, the richest oligarch in México is from lebanese descent, i wonder what he thinks about the zionist terrorism in lebanon.

[-] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

From my perspective, the mainstream sentiment is varied. The constant pro-palestinian protest are weakening the zionist narrative. Lots of outspoken zionist(or the ones that are within my circles) have shut their mouths and moved on to showcasing their wealth.

Adding to see the perspective of @bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml to enrich this discusion

@SadArtemis

There is a relevant community here in Brazil that came from the middle east. There are 20 thousand Brazilians in Lebanon right now. So there are some vocal people here, including politicians that speak out in defense of the Palestinian people. Even, Michel Temer, who assumed the presidency after the coup against Dilma Roussef in 2016, criticized Israel for the massacre in Lebanon (he is of Lebanese descent).

But I think the mainstream sentiment is divided, those from the far right who supports Bolsonaro and also evangelical churches supports Israel unconditionally while those more left leaning does not.

I hate it. Constant bashing of Iran and Hezbollah because they're Shia and friends of Algeria and mocking their missile attacks while also claiming that they and Israel are just putting on a fake show. This coming from a country who's been the mole in the Arab world since the 1960s.

[-] juchenecromancer@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 day ago

The Saddam supporters have the worst cognitive dissonance possible... I've heard some of them claim that the missiles Iraqi militias sent on US military bases earlier this year were somehow empty. Now they're claiming that Iran and Israel are best friends and just staging stuff to trick people. Some have called out that "Iran notified the US of the attack therefore it's fake and staged" ignoring that Iran is notifying UNSC members to comply with article 51 of the UN Charter (Right to Self-Defense). By invoking the charter, Iran is playing their attacks in a calm and calculated way, harming Israel but not starting WW3. Saddam supporters are just mad because Iran won't be like Saddam and just blindly shoot Scuds over Israel while achieving no political gains other than making themselves look "based" to clueless idiots.

[-] big_spoon@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 day ago

genocide? you're really telling me that israel isn't defending itself from those evul terrorists of hamas?

~~yeah, the prez may be a leftist, but the media is mostly rightoid~~

[-] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago

Most channels (CNN and the local ones) are Pro-Israel, but keep this lib views that the war is not against the Palestinians or Arabs, but against Hamas and Hezbollah or whatever. They do bring Pro-Palestinian people to talk too and just let them talk. Channels like Telesur and some others are Pro-Palestine and Anti-Zionism.

[-] Zugumba@bolha.one 25 points 2 days ago

@ksynwa Zionist lobby is strong here in Brazil to the point of influencing the government. Mainstream media basically buys the Zionist propaganda with very rare exceptions.

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 2 days ago

That sucks but thank you very much for your input.

[-] mamotromico@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago

Seconding this. There’s no real pushback on the Zionist propaganda on mainstream media here. But on the other hand it’s not hard to find organizations and political parties that do push back

[-] AYJANIBRAHIMOV@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Here ( where I live ) the Yankees control everything ( including the media ) , and favor the zionists a lot , so when it comes to Palestine , is mostly anti-arab stuff and calling Palestinian people "terrorists" daily on the media nonstop .

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 days ago

Stay strong, friend. It is tough to be in this situation.

[-] GlueBear@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 days ago

If you're living in the entity, you should get out now while you have the chance.

No , I don't live inside Yankeelandia ... They are inside my country and they have control of the media and of the country .

( Check my posting history and you will see where I'm from , I don't talk to much about it , but I have let it known to some comrades ) .

[-] GlueBear@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 days ago

Ok! Stay extra safe, one of the most dangerous things the entity has done to Jewish communities worldwide is give the impression that everyone supports their genocide.

Always stay safe friend!
