Hilarious, at this rate he'll end up being banned for the final race

[-] Vinny_93@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I'd love to see that. And then see Lando just come up short by 2 points or something, or get a bullshit penalty. Oscar's win at Hungary will be the decider for this WDC and that will be definite proof that some of this stuff is scripted.

He's cracking under the pressure.

Not in this case. He was trying to time it perfectly and was off by 0.5 second.

He was 0.63 seconds below the minimum, over a half a second indicates he was overly focused on being right on top of Piastri rather than his margin. Max appears to get more reckless under pressure.

Absolutely this. We saw this clearly in the lead up to his first driver's championship. Everyone maintained we were seeing a more mature, more sportsman-like Max since then, but instead he just didn't feel any pressure over the last few years. He still drives like a pissed off teenager and makes it clear that every time you try to pass him, he'd rather just force you out or crash into you, no matter what the circumstances.

He's a fucking immature asshole. Always has been. Likely always will be.

Riveting contribution to the discussion.

Calling a driver a โ€œfucking immature assholeโ€ is not exactly a great contribution either and against this communityโ€™s rules (rule nr 1)

[-] kata1yst@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

I contributed my opinion, which included highlighting a long standing pattern of problematic behavior, and labeling that behavior with a well understood classification.

To be clear, I respect Verstappen. Anyone with eyes and a brain has to. His talent is without question. But that (and rule 1) doesn't make him immune to justifiable criticism.

Perhaps "fucking immature asshole" oversteps the words of rule 1 if you squint hard enough, but I maintain that it doesn't violate the spirit of it.

If he was off by less than a second as to when VSC would actually end, he would have ended up above the minimum time before he could slow back down. We have seen countless sprinters jumping a start when they are held for longer than usual time and it was not because all those people crumbled under pressure.

Well you always take more risks when you have the 'slower' car than when you have the quicker car. Max raced the Ferrari differently because he knows he can have multiple attempts to pass Charles. Against the McLarens, he pushing the limits to try and gain any advantage. Often results in him going over the penalties and some the incidents (T7/T8 in Mexico) were way over the line but I would rather see someone pushing the limits rather than just accepting their fate.

He guessed and was way off, you can sugar coat it any way you want about almost guessing correctly but he took an unnecessary risk.

I never said he crumbled, just cracked, if he keeps making these kinds of mistakes then he'll crumble. Sprinters that jump the gun do crack under the pressure. Max made a mistake because of the pressure.
