Look how the Republicans are bringing jobs to ordinary Americans.

And the price of eggs is down!

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Prices of eggs will go down if nobody can afford them because there's no jobs.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

This is why Trump has a very good brain!

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Speaking of eggs @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world what the price of a carton of eggs in the UK right now?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Probably cheaper at Aldi, but...

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Holy shit I thought 6.15 for dozen was cheap here where I am at. Thanks for information. What the value difference in currency?

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 21 hours ago

Last grocery shop in the Intermountain west, 1 dozen was over $10. May be re-evaluating recipes for a bit. Could sub 2 pounds of sausage and still save money.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Currency converter says $3.93. So not quite half price, but still a lot cheaper than in the U.S. right now I guess.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure is, rest groceries and housing doing well too? And how the job hunt going?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No luck on the latter yet, but the former two are not at issue at the moment, thanks.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah I to am having issues in the job part. Hard looking for work in your mid forties.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Late 40s here. So yeah, we're in a very similar boat.

Good luck to you.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Thank you just applied to the large glass plant in town. Its a union job I hope I get it.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

I hope so too!

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 53 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Christ. That’s a huge number of unemployed people to dump on any city.

[–] Fluffy_Ruffs@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

While I don't want to downplay the impact layoffs will have on the region, there are 30k total employees bracing for the impact of layoffs. The headline makes it seem like there will be 30k layoffs which shouldn't be the case.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There will be far more than just 30,000 people losing their livlihood over this. Millions of dollars in federal contracts that are paid out locally will dry up.

This is going to kill entire economies.

[–] Fluffy_Ruffs@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago

Agreed. This aggressive if not hostile action will certainly harm smaller, local economies across the country.

However the way the headline is written makes it seem like 30k jobs in KC are going away which isn't the case.

Can we cut off disability and VA benefits to the people who voted for this troll? That is just gov waste after all.

[–] pdxfed@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, I hope all those Kansas residents who voted for racism, fascism, the end of the rule of law and destroying the government enjoy their bed.

[–] 52fighters 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)
  1. That photo is Kansas City Missouri.
  2. Kansas City votes Democrat. Rural communities further away from the city are voting Republican.

Let's cut off farm subsidies then. Gov waste.

[–] pdxfed@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Right, much like the rest of the country. My point was as the ripples and waves and face eating leopards hit the folks who voted for the Republicans, as their businesses and communities suffer from fallout and they're told "just a bit of pain" that they have enough brain cells to remember the lies they were fed.

[–] w3dd1e@lemm.ee 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’ve been trying to find a new job since April. Getting a job that will pay your mortgage in KC isn’t easy, as it is.

[–] mctoasterson@reddthat.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Without doxxing yourself too hard, what industry are you in?

[–] w3dd1e@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don’t mind. I work on Commercial Real Estate loans.

KC, Dallas, and Miami have a lot of companies in this industry. Over the years, they branch off or get bought out, move two miles down the road and start another company.

If you or someone you know is looking for work in that field, DM me. :)

[–] Monument 2 points 1 day ago

That’s actually really funny.

My sister used to work for a lender that did construction and real estate in one of the cities you mentioned. The company she worked for folded in 2009, so she banded together with some colleagues, pooled their client lists, and got a silent partner to open a new business a few miles down the road.
They ultimately didn’t wind up doing the same thing as the lender that folded, but are still doing lending-related work in those sectors.
