Seems like the mods from r/buyfromeu on reddit don't really want european alternatives to win when it means them leaving their subreddit in favor of something actually european

That was my post, I'm having a chat with the mods now, hoping they can reinstate the post. a warning would have been nice before removing the post and banning me, but let's see what comes of this.

Is the claim that a corporation runs this community to do self-promotion actually based on anything substantial or are they just being weird on Reddit?
Seems to be a reddit mod moment. @buyeuropean@feddit.org is a mod of the community, but https://buy-european.net/ is a small side project. Ironically, the /r/buyfromEU mods seem to be involved about https://www.goeuropean.org/ , which is more bloated due to using Softr. They also have third-party cookies: https://www.goeuropean.org/cookie-policy
Could maybe be the reason why they want to keep people using that last website, and prevent people hearing from https://buy-european.net/
but didn't they yesterday say that !buyfromeu@feddit.org is run by a company? i'm not even mod there afaik. as the europeans-alternatives site is the only one serving ads and having affiliate links, i would assume it's more about them than it is about our ad-free site tbh. but they promote that commercial site explicitly. not sure why they seemingly hate us with a passion... damn it, forgot i didn't want to partake in drama anymore :D

We've known this for actual years now. Reddit has made it crystal clear, talking about competition is absolutely not allowed. But they aren't controlled by China dammit, you'd be crazy to think that!

Without context, maybe, but if you start connecting all the dots over the years, it's not far-fetched nor off topic.
Sure I get your first few sentences and even agree there that reddit doesn't want positive talk of competition, but what I'm failing to see is where China comes in to play here beyond the fact they have some ownership stake in reddit. Do you think they're driving this policy, if so what makes you think it's them and not any of the other 100 rich assholes with ownership stakes?
The people who have held board positions over the last decade or so, the particular bias toward preventing Chinese dissent getting too big on any sub when others are allowed to get massive, even violent hate groups like white supremacists have better luck with administration, and the ever more identical content policies of Reddit and the CCP.
Hi, I don't think it's crazy to think the CCP owns (or rather controls) it, but I don't think it even matters. They've clearly chosen to operate a certain way.
Big tech companies (fuck you Reddit) and governments will shout about the CCP and how nobody can trust that their privacy is respected on Chinese platforms (not disputing this), or how they censor dissenting speech, but then you see how those same invasive measures are implemented in a more subtle way on non-Chinese platforms.
I have an easier time imagining that it's just lessons learned from the CCP and others regardless of the organization's (fuck you Reddit) nationality. It's a matter of money, or power, or both, because they (fuck you Reddit) have no values and will bend the knee to authoritarians so that they can operate in those countries and feed off of their people too.
I saw this post and hey at least from what I've seen in the comments some people were corrected and decided to give it a try so it did have impact.
