Summary

Teresa Borrenpohl filed a $5 million lawsuit after private security dragged her from a February Republican town hall in Post Falls, Idaho.

Video shows unidentified men, later tied to LEAR Asset Management, forcibly removing her after she loudly questioned officials.

The city revoked LEAR’s license, citing public safety risks. Coeur D’Alene’s city attorney charged six men with battery, false imprisonment, and violations of security conduct.

Borrenpohl also named Sheriff Bob Norris in her tort claim, alleging fear of kidnapping and constitutional rights violations. National coverage has spotlighted civil liberties concerns.

Good to see she included the Sheriff in her lawsuit. The state failed to press charges against him; despite him making first contact, threatening to pepper spray her, physically assaulting her himself, then ultimately giving the order for unidentified private security to remove her.

Glad to see that too. Sheriff Bob should have some significant consequences for his actions.

Is "it" money or El Salvador? You have to be more clear nowadays.

[–] Zippygutterslug@lemmy.world 42 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Money, friend. I hope she gets paid, and wish she had asked for more.

Yeah $5mil seems low, but it also seems achievable

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Shitty thing is that money will come from taxpayers if the sheriff is found liable

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe this kicks off the reckoning for the Police to start paying for their own fuck ups.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

For conservative fuckups? Nahhhh. How about a consultation reward of TEN million dollars and fame though?

Republicans right now: OK, let's see where her ancestry leads and how many generations her family has been in the country. There is certainly the possibility for an administrative error if ya know what I mean.

They won't even need that as an excuse; they'll be trolling through whatever data FAANG has on any "troublemakers" and pointing to something they posted/liked that was insufficiently loyal to donvict, fElon, and the Republican Party as a rationale to kidnap them and put them in a foreign-run concentration camp.

They'll find a tattoo of infinity on her ankle andinl her to MS-13

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

What? You're native American? That means that your family has been here for thousands of years, you definitely have all overstayed your visas now, to El Salvador!

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I believe whatever the jury awards will actually pay triple. Then she can also sue for all legal fees because a crime was committed.

This is going to eventually happen to ICE as well.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 7 points 2 weeks ago

Wonderful. Thanks this is most hopeful and encouraging.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

If I were on the jury, I'd give her every penny.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Good, although I wish it was set even higher.
